Found this site which may be useful for those with sore feet with new boots, or lacing bike boots. etc.

That's a very useful guide, thanks for posting. There's a trend with fabric boots which offer lighter weight than traditional leather boots (I'm a convert, although I still use my Altberg Tethra hikers for shorter rambles) but as many are discovering, there's less of a padding effect on synthetic boot uppers under the midfot (and higher) lace hook bases, which causes them to press against the top of the foot and ankle bone in some boots. This seems to be due to traditional boots using gusseted tongues to have naturally more cushioning under the hook bases avoiding pressure points whereas modern synthetic boots seem to lack this cushioning.

I've found that by running the laces from the lace lock hooks, straight up the hooks above them (no cris-crossing) and then using the "Ian Secure knot" that I can keep laces from coming undone whilst reducing pressure caused by hook bases on the ankle joint. Details of the knot:

The other way I've found to alleviate sore feet and ankles caused by pressure of lace hook bases, is to invest in some decent cushioned socks. The ones that have worked best for me are these:

Inov8 Merino high socks: https://www.inov8.com/active-merino-high-sock?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21835237199&gbraid=0AAAAADOWKf9_aJhz75cdquUe3rbaEb8XR&gclid=CjwKCAiAncvMBhBEEiwA9GU_ftQWehOwtpIhMrMZYdpGeKyILcHvpqBEWMFwC7uOErvDUER8H70WhxoCchwQAvD_BwE

1000 mile cushioned "Approach" crew socks: https://www.1000mile.co.uk/products/approach-repreve-double-layer-sock

And perhaps the best cushioned socks I've tried, the Darn Tuff "1466" made in Vermont micro crew hiker sock. Not cheap but especially well made and seem really comfortable: https://darntough.uk/collections/mi...-micro-crew-midweight-hiking-sock-last-chance

Slightly off topic, sorry, have just bought another pair of Meindl Bhutan boots after the previous ones, after several years and one rebuild, decided to leak like sieve. They are comfortable from the first time you put them on.As for the laces I have left them as they came from the factory as in criss crossing and that works fine for me.I have taken the precaution of wearing thicker socks until they are a bit more worn in.

Off topic story, my grandfather in WW 1 shot an armed soldier who was in his trenches, whose boots had the laces on wrongly according to army issue standard at that time.
He did in fact turn out to be a Spy for the opposite side.
