Yesterday we travelled from castello de godego to Lake Come. We kep off the main roads and enjoyed stunning scenery. Stopped at costermano sul Garda then Sirmione for lunch ( 2 nd visit this year….lucky me ) we ended up at Mandello de Lario, beautiful view from our window this morning. :D

As usual. Sorry about the fotos.

Was there last week staying in Lecco. Fantastic scenery, boat trip to Bellagio beautiful. Mandello was manic. Spent a couple of days in Milan on the way back (wouldn't visit there again), all in all a great week away, next trip possibly lake Garda, loved Italy.

I much prefer Italy to any other european country I've been to. Lake Garda is my wife's favourite place anywhere. Tuscany is mine.

Are you going to visit the Moto GUzzi factory. It's certainly worth it.

No. I’ve done the museum on a previous visit. Mind you the factory gates are only about 150 metres away.

Lake Garda is even better than lake Como.

Popping here in June - Como or Garda?
Any preferences on which area to stay?
Nice hotel, nice views, nice restaurants, no bike as using trains

Lake Garda only has trains to the SW corner but easy to get about the lake on the passenger ferries. We only did a day trip from Limone, but Malcesine is where I would stay next time. There are some nice looking hotels near the harbour with views across the lake to mountains.

We stayed in Peshiera at the foot of Lake Garda. Lovely place. On fact we’re going again in September. Passenger ferries to many places around the lake and trains to many places nearby. We visited Sirmione by ferry and Venice, Verona and Milan using trains.

Try…
Grand Hotel, Gardone Riviera, Garda.
First class and refurbed just a few years ago.
Right next to the lake’s ferry boats and plenty to do in the immediate vicinity.
Some history within the hotel, too.
We’re back again later this year.

This passenger boat had an interesting history from memory, including being strafed by allied aircraft in WW2

Not done Como but stayed here on Garda in 2016.
Not the cheapest but stunning location with rooms and restaurant right on the lake .
Definitively not a place to go with ver lads but if you’re taking someone special , or your wife then they’ll love it 😃
Although my girlfriend at the time didn’t , but that’s a funny story for another time 😃

Lake Lugano on the Swiss side of the border is an excellent option. Swiss cleanliness and Italian food with good restaurants and.hotels. Home to the Swiss Harley Davison annual meet one-time whenI was there.

Italian food with Swiss prices ? 😳

That’s a bit subjective, but here’s my version.
I much prefer Lake Garda to como. My recommendation on a place to stay would be Riva del Garda if on the north end or sirmione on the south end ( which is closer to the railway ). Unfortunately, sirmione is very popular which means it’s always busy.
A place I always enjoy visiting but have never stayed at is Lazise.
As for a particulary good hotel, there’s loads of em .😆
I’ve been about 15 or 20 times and never had a bad experience, just some are better than others.
If you have the time, and are prepared to lug your cases then do some time at the Hotel Sole in Riva. Then some time at the south end of the lake
Most of all….ENJOY you lucky people.
PS I may be going back in August for a few days on the moto including a night in Rifugio Graziani on the backside of Monte Baldo. It’s like a Swiss alpine area but with Italian food 😃
