Seeing Chris's trip report spurred me on to post my first bike trip to the Lakes in summer 1975

This is my bike ready to go, its a Honda 125s if your not familiar fitted with a pair of home made plywood panniers very like the aluminum ones you buy today, these were completely waterproof but had no locks, just Cheney catches. On the front was my sleeping bag in a fertilizer bag with a ground sheet above that. Behind the front sheet was my tent and a camp bed above it.

The bike handled like

York to the lakes was just over 100 miles, we went thought the market town of Skipton, the market was in full flow when we arrived, we rode straight throught the middle, people everywhere, it was mayhem! :D

Anyway, we camped at Langdale, this was our two ridge tents linked by a top pole and poly awning, which was really useful as it rained every day so we had somewhere to cook, neat eh!

My mates tent was some nylon and packed away the size of a bread loaf inc ploes, mine was canvas and 5 times the size packed

This is Bridge House, Amblside. Note the fashion trousers of the two females, OMG! but it gets worse!!!

Well, I told you it got worse, this is me and a horse we meet while wandering the paths above Langdale, believe me it was a the fashion! (me not the horse!):augie

The horse was wearing my hat, mate ray missed the shot

Sunset over Langdale, shot through me sunglasses :bow

This is my mate of the time Ray, yeh, I know not even a helmet :eek My bike too!

Funny thing was he was actual riding a CZ175 on the trip, till he feel off it during a rain storm on one of the passes. We picked the bike up, it had a busted brake lever (went down on the right) but he was fine, the bike wasn't though, that bike never went in a straight line after that despite all efforts to straighten the thing up :tears

It rained at least once a day and every evening with an electric storm, it was great walking back from the pubs in Langdale lit up by lightning!

I left my helmet locked to the bike while we had a trip on Windermere, while we were out we had another rain storm, when I got back my helmet was full of water LOL, and stayed wet for a few days :D

Just missed the Windermere ferry, this ones gone now, but I think even the replacement's quite old now!

Honda CB125

Great report and pic's :aidan

Fec'K brought back many memories of my 1st bike. Same colour and crash bars!

Cost £327 new in 1975.Was fit for 65MPH all day long and made 72MPH doon hill!

You must have had some fun in the Lake district going up / down the passes and how did she go fully loaded??:thumb

Mine had about the same performance as yours, but it did over 100mpg on that trip, handled terribly fully loaded, but was fine again once all the luggage was stripped off, went over Hardnott and Wrynose pass easier than the 1200RT does now! :D

I'm pretty sure this was taken from the top of Hardnott, Nott the very best of pictures :D

Wish you were Rory?

Not sure about that...he had severe alcohol & drug problems (some related to fear of flying) and died of liver complications.

On the other hand one of the world's finest guitarists. I saw him in many different venues...in Germany at the Lorelei, Heppenheim and once in Canada in bleeding pub (albeit a large one)!

Sorry...your 70's photos cause heavy reminiscing about 70's music etc.
