Hi folks,
I'm trying to replace the existing remus Y piece on my 1150GS with the o.e. catalytic convertor before I p/x it for a 12GS, but I can't for the life of me get the lambda sensor out! I guess the Y piece is worth the best part of £100 on ebay but I don't want to bust the sensor.
I've balanced the Ypiece on a big tool box and applied as much torque as I can but it just will not loosen, despite copious WD40! Any advice would be very much appreciated!
Has anyone sold a Cat on ebay? Do they have a value?!
Cheers

When I did mine a year or so ago, I soaked the thread in 'Ease-it' as opposed to WD40 and then applied heat to the surrounding exhaust using a hot air gun (the sort used for stripping paint off wood). It released fairly easily after that !
By the way - make sure the spanner you use is a good fit as well !:thumb2

If you haven't already (I'm assuming not from your post?) - it's much easier if you take the whole thing off - saves time in the long run. Just disconnect the sensor on the right hand side and free the cable. Then you can get the whole thing out and work on it properly.

Pluck

I just removed the Cat from mine and put on a Y piece. I struggled getting the Lambda sensor out until I heated the surrounding Cat using my wifes kitchen blow torch. Then it was quite easy.

Just remember to keep any sprays/ lube that contain even the smallest amount of silicone away from the sensor part as this will 'poisen' the sensor and will be scrap, no amount of cleaning /burning off will restore it
