Lambda sensor replacement

Steptoe sayed he's 1150 started much better when he replaced the lambda sensor. Thinking about doing same on mine - it usually needs some few revs before it starts, would expect better on fuel-injected twin...

Anyone knows how much this lambda piece costs? And how hard it is to replace it?

Yes, i have it on 1100 on the place you specified.
 
OK, maybe they fitted them to some markets, but not the UK.

When a lambda sensor is fitted the Engine Management system operates in what is know as "closed loop" which means that the Motronic adjusts the fueling according to the readings it receives from the lambda sensor.

On the UK bikes there is a "CO" potentiometer fitted to the left hand side of the frame close to the fuse box and this is used to "set" the "CO" level on the bike. I believe that it is as simple as removing the lambda sensor and plugging in the "CO" pot.

my bike turned over for a minute or so before it used to fire up and run - plus i checked everything else before replacing the Lambda sensor -

Don't change it just because your bike takes a few turns before it fires up - i think you may be wasting your time and money, both better spent just making sure the bike is set up properly to start with.

Or it might just be really dirty - specially if you have a leaky y-piece fitted. Took my y off recently and the lambda was caked in soot deposits. Cleaned it up with wd40, reinstalled and the bike ran much better - and I get about 20 miles more per tank now - bonus!!
 
Steptoe, that doesn't sound right! Don't Lambda sensors operate only after the engine is warm?
 
Abreacames,you're right,normally it won't start working until it's reached about 300°, I think Steptoe's testing us!

That's more like it, Le Singe. I also could not see Steptoe cranking for about a minute before starting... Now I am wondering about everything else he had convinced me of, such as the "side-of-the-road" rear end repair...

Only telling you what i done - i'm not testing you on your knowledge -

I had tried and tested everything else to cure the bad starting, changed the lambda sensor as a last resort and it had an immediate effect -

it's not my fault that it cured the starting :confused: :confused:

( p.s. the bike had done over 90K miles )

Oh, sorry! I guess it is an American series, but it is not my "cup of tea". :P
I have been wondering all this time, are you French? What is this "monkey" business (of your userID)?
 
I'm English but living in France.
I passenger in a sidecar in the Brittany hill-climb championship and the French refer to a passengers as 'Le singe',the monkey!
It's better than their other term 'viande de la roue',wheel meat!
