This comes on the display every so often, goes out within 30 seconds if it appears. Ride for a bit, stop, start again does not show.

Assuming its something to do with the rear light?

The connections on the back of my bulb became a little corroded - a quick clean and a squirt of corrosion blocking spray (wd40, acf50 whatever) stopped the LAMPR for me :thumb

Top tip - don't do up the 3 bolts holding the rear light assembly too tight. And the same goes for the two screws that hold the red plastic housing on either.

DAMHIK :(

If your bike is still in warranty take it back to the dealers, I did, with the same fault and they replaced the whole rear lamp assembly.

Good point, it is, taken the extended warrenty, error even popped up when i was leaving NOG, should have gone back in.

Will error of LampR be stored?

Assuming you've got the time to sit in the dealers and wait for their coffee break to finish :augie

Quicker and cheaper to do it yourself, and you'll have the knowledge to know what to do should it do the same in the middle of nowhere :nenau

Sorry to drag this up again, but this error is back. I've removed the light cover, cleaned up the connections, with a bit of WD 40. A known working bulb is in, but still comes on with ignition. Trying foot brake & watching the light, its lit, it does not go brighter when braking.

Retested the bulb in the car, still working. But bike says no.

Any ideas?

I had the same, the three connections on to the back of the light were badly corroded, re-terminated and solved but i have an '06 and the back of the light is open to the elements.

Mine is a 56, so same. Looking further a black plastic clip from the bottom bracket (black bit) of the 2 connectors has snapped off. So they are too loose and can easily fall back. Grrrrrr, supposed to be going to Scotland tomorrow.

Thinking of a temp bodge & cutting off spring connectors and wiring straight to the bulb. It's a bodge, but means it won't rattle free half way to Applecross.

Any implications if I do this?

Tunnie,

Taking the liberty of dropping in an e-mail I got from a fellow tosser just last week:

"...the other week my bulb warning light came on? I checked, and they all seemed to be working!

Then, the red Brake Failure warning came on, and it stayed on, despite stopping and starting several times.

Yesterday, I got the chance to go to the BMW dealer and report the problem... I was looking forward to them booking it in and replacing the ECU, at a cost of several hundred pounds :(

It turned out that the brake light filament in the rear bulb had blown. When that happens, the rear light filament glows brighter when the brakes are applied.. a failsafe mechanism. To warn you that this has happened (because, on inspection, everything seems to be working OK), it activates the LAMPR! warning and yellow triangle... and eventually the red Brake Failure warning, because it's a fault in the braking system (bulb).

All it took to fix was a twin-filament rear light bulb. I actually paid them £4.08 for a BMW one, even thought I could have got one from Halfords for £1.99... I was so relieved!

Just so that you know for future... and don't start panicking..."

not too sure what you mean by the black bit, it's an arse design anyway but i dont think it would be an issue to bodge, the spring bits can be bent in a bit if you need to increase the contact

Thanks chaps :thumb2

Sadly its not the bulb, I don't know the technical name, but the metal L things which are as bent as Graham Norton, flap around too much. There used to be a black "latch" underneath to hold them secure, but thats now missing. Holding the two plastic connects flush with bulb, makes LAMPR go out, I can see brake light activating too.
