I have volunteered to take part in an charity event with the FJ Owners Club in May ( my neighbour has one!)

They are riding End to End on 21 May 05 with a view to beating the current record (?) of 14 hrs 39 mins.

I will be riding from Warwick to Land End of Friday 20th, End to End charity event on the Saturday, riding home again on SUnday 22nd.

The event will be using the quickest route (for obvious reasons) and anyone can wave us along if they feel that way inclined.

Any tips from anyone who has taken part in anything similar? keep it light:bounce1 , stay awake  and enjoy :D are the only things that I can think of at the moment......

Oh, any offers of sponsorship are welcome. I will be putting my collection to "Children In Need". PM me if interested.

Cheers :beerjug: B A B

Is that the record.I could kick my hat that distance quicker:D

Sorry,I just read that again and noticed it said FJ owners club,Comment withdrawn

4 of us girls did it last year in 24 hours for breast cancer charities
that was with 8 stops and a 4 hour break for a kip at lucy's in worcester......
with hindsight i reckon i could do it from dawn to dusk now...as i know the bike better and have a lot more confidence (only had the 1100 a few weeks before i did the run)
drink red bull
time your stops well
do it from john o graots to lands end as the roads and fuel facilities are far better down south and you will be your lowest at the end
drink from a camel back while you're riding

good luck

DOWNHILL

Dont forget that starting at JoG means that you are going downhill all the way, therefore it should be faster
:beerjug: . I got a grade B at O level Geography you know

Downhill all the way

My wife agrees with the downhill theory. She says that as the north of scotland is further away from the equator and therefore on a slope in relation to the southwest.
She did not get any grade in o level geography, and neither did I, but there is some insane logic to it.
good luck, i would love to try something like that but first i would need to have an improved posterior gratfed onto my bod as i could not sustain the agony it would endure.:beerjug:

camel back for drinking

colostomy bag for non stop toilets.

air hawk for comfort

tape over the no plate

mirrors folded back

head on tank

depending on how serious you are :)

To those of you that have done it, which route is the quickest ?..............summers coming, and I fancy doing it.........

Cheers

would you like me to mail you the rout we took last year and the stops??
f so..p.m. me your e mail address

Don't envy you if you're doing it for speed. Presumably you're mainly on motorways etc, so the wind buffeting will be a bit of a bugger.

I did it with a colleague two weeks ago, using 'A' roads and taking a week to get from home to LE, do the trip and then home on the Friday.

Great roads and did about 375/400 miles per day but respect to you if you're doing it as you intend.

Apart from the strong side winds up the A9, the only thing I didn't find comfortable was the right hand between thumb and first finger.

Must use my right grip too much - gripping too tight!

Enjoy the scenery up in Scotland!:)

....its 874 miles isnt it?
i didnt feel any wind buffering on the A9
it was only in the highlands i found i was fighting with the handlebars.........

We took the scenic route but had to turn back near Wick due to very strong cross winds and snow falling.

The exposed parts of the A9 from near Dingwall onwards were pretty horrific.

We never intended to take the quickest/shortest route but I don't envy those doing it to beat the time record - surely that would take some of the fun out of it.

Beautiful scenery and roads - much better to enjoy the ride.

yes i agree
the one big regret i had when doing the run was not having time to stop and enjoy the countryside
determined to go back and do that coast road from latheron to wick...

Eat lightly and often.

Drink plenty of fluids.

Eat, drink and do toilet at every fuel stop.

Lands End to John O'Groats is downhill because the earth is ever so slightly larger round the equator than round the poles.

Read the article about Stan Wilson in May's BIKE magazine, he can do 1523 miles in a day. Hero.

Give me a beep when you ride past Weston.

Enjoy.

End 2 End

All

thanks for all the tips and comments.

just got back from Steptoe's having had the bike fully serviced (TOP MAN!!) in prep for the trip next month.

Camel back is cleaned and ready to be topped up with Red Bull or such like!b

route is pretty much sorted for the way up but will be looking at taking it easier on the way back down.

Just need to get as much sleep in between now and setting off and getting the licence plate as dirty as possible (just in case we have to go faster than the national!:D What me orificer, speeding:confused: :D )

I am not too sure if the recorded best time is published anywhere but the FJ club whom im running with are looking to beast 14 hrs. All for charity......

I WILL be sensible and WILL NOT be riding like a t$%t, it is also for fun and not life or death..

Keep the comments coming.

Have PM'd you Matron.
