Land's End Trial 2013

Got my T63's ordered, to be fitted on Fri. Given the snow, maybe I should ask for them to be studded!!

Look what just came in the post :bounce

I received my entry pack today.

You should be able to get an electronic version of the route via this week's MCC e-newsletter, so you can re-format it (Verdana in 16 font is my favourite), and amend with your scheduled time. Some also highlight re-starts etc.

Feeling excited about the trial, can't believe it's only a couple of weeks away :bounce1

It's worth studying the route several times before the trial :rob

Thanks for that Ian. I was just about to start writing it up...

Is it just me?

Looking at the road book makes my head hurt!

You are not alone. Got home to find this yesterday..... looked at it for a couple of mins, thought wtf and put it in the "i'll deal with it later" drawer.

Also got out my heated jacket that I haven't used for a while and....
NOTHING. Rather like Christmas Tree lights but a whole load more expensive... put it away working, take it out and its bust. How the f*ck does that happen?:blast

Interestingly I emailed enquiries to 2 different online retailers wanting to buy thier products.... both didn't even bother replying. Trade must either be very good or they've abandoned all hope and are just waiting for the end.

My numbers 110 so am looking to get to know 109's tail light rather well....:P

Took in a few lanes in the dark on the way home from work tonight to see what it's like in the dark and how the headlight does. Gotta say, on full beam, it's actually pretty good. Can't quite look as far ahead as I normally would but then I don't plan on going as fast as I normally would!

Tyres

Managed to get a new T63 front for £30, winner. Got a nearly new T63 rear on ebay for the same which turned up yesterday... Except they've sent me a huge Maxxis quad tyre in error. :blast. Hopefully will get it sorted ASAP.

I'll fit some gaffer tape on your goggles on Sunday to replicate the darkness. :D

Maybe the tape will stop me wiping out at high speed :blast :D

Not the Land's End, but Tipley, one of the MCC Exeter Trial 'hills'

I watched the first 10-15 mins and it gives a good preview to newbies of the 'stop and restart' test for bikes, what to do and how to do it etc

Might be worth a watch for sme tips :thumb

Requested the roadbook as a word document and have just spent the evening creating my own A4 sheet road book.

Followed it on the map and marked it up in a way that made sense to me.

If anybody would like a copy drop me a PM

Bear in mind Ive cut out the stuff which I felt I did not need.

Just spent a few minutes watching this thinking it was from this year's Exeter :blast

IMHO Tipley is one of the hardest sections in all of the MCC trials if not the hardest them all and it requires a very determined approach. Fortunately this year class C bikes didn't have to do the re-start.

The approaches in the film to the re-start give a good illustration of the importance of wheel positioning, especially the back wheel, simply because that's the one that has to do all the work, including gripping, to proceed, so you need to give it the next chance possible.

I thought it might be useful for the new entrants, as an insight to this quirk of LDT & Classic Trials, & something that isn't used in Observed Trials

No. 121

I'm not nervous at all when I don't think about it.

This is an important point. What happens when you ride a section and don't think about it? Do you just hand over control to your subconscious? A friend is doing some work in this very area.

When you know how to do something it does becomes an automatic response so you do not have to think about it. The more you think about a section the more you can cause yourself a problem. If the trial has been set up to make you think and scare you a little, then that is good work by the Clerk of the Course, it is just your thought processes that will cause you to dab. Believe you can do it and your brain will go with you, the slightest self doubt and you will dab! You do not have to think about driving your car you just do it. Mental rehearsal is great, always be successful when you do it in your head and it is therefore more powerful than actual practice where you can get it wrong. Keep those feet on the pegs!
