Beggars is very historic for the trial but done at night so probably not that great for spectating. If I was spectating at any it would be Crackington or Blue Hills.

NOT looking forward to the cold.

Yeah you maybe right.

Could pop over to Bridgwater and then have an early start and head down to Crackington and then seeing how I felt BH's.

For me the first hill after Bridgewater is not till just past midnight... I think the early start plan would be best.

The standard time is 6:20 so add our # in mins and GSER,s will not be passing through till 7:30 (unless we are ahead of schedual)

Just popped over to Bridgwater to see the bikes arriving and by christ is it cold and I've just been stood outside chatting for an hour. Forecast is -3 on the moors tonight and I don't envy them one bit.

I don't really understand the whole start from different areas and head to Bridgwater thing. Why don't they just have a nice start venue somewhere like Taunton where everyone starts from and returns too?

Wreford & Mav on the HP2's

It's a reliability trial, hence the different starts & extra mileage :)

It still doesn't make sense to me. Start and finish it at one location and make the route the required mileage.
I think they could also find a better start venue than around the back of Bridgwater Rugby Club.

You lucky guys, really miss doing that event. A friend of ours from Brittany is doing it this year for the first time (no.6) so we've been having updates from his wife .I remember one year in particular goiing over Exmoor at 3am in a blizzard.

Hope you've all had a fab time - I still have my tupperware route card holder and use it occasssionally if hubby has the satnav on his bike! I just have to have the route in larger print these days so I can read it!!!

A highlight for me was seeing the sea in the early morning light after an amazing night of freezing cold and following a trail of lights across the moors.

The lowlight was feeling exhausted near the end and deciding (as I intended to ride the 300 miles home) that I should miss the last to hills!

It was probably a wise decision as I arrived home to the minute 24 hours after Id set off with 642 miles on the GPS, the last 70 were very hard - In hindsight it was a stupid idea to plan to ride straight home.

Great to ride with the guys, good coaching from Ian (who's very good), excellent efforts by all including Mav's superior HP2 skills

Next time I'll be staying down there and fitting heated grips ( my hands are cracked and shagged from the cold) - I could also do with some more skill, those that get up some of those hills are very talented people.

Mate of mine is doing it, or has done it, hopefully! not sure which bike he has taken but he is part of some Norton Club, I think he said he's got a caravan hired to cash in after the race tho, sounds like a wise move!

I sat watching it at the last stage and if I had thought in advance would have offered my spare room to you guys. Sorry didn't take any photos as Jasmin has my camera but it was good watching the bikes. I will have a lovely one bedroomed flat on a farm, with lots of sofa beds so anyone wants a nice rest just outside St Ives next year let me know.

I know that feeling

Firstly well done.:thumb
I did it in the past and your right about the sea first thing in the morning ( the first rays of sunshine really lift you after the night ride and with the expectations of getting warmer). I did it on a serow and enfield 500 and rode home to bedford an hour or two after finishing and its a knackering but you have a great sense of achievement. You sleep for hours once home then you have the task of red mud removal.

Well what a fantastic event. Mav has a few photos that I'm sure he'll post in good time. As Wreford has said, it was pretty darn cold during the night but the unofficial UKGSer team did brilliantly.

Wreford, it's a real shame you missed the last few sections but you were sensible enough to realise you were knackered and stop while the going was good! There's always next year. Or the Edinborough in October....

A huge thank you to Ian for guiding us round. We all had our roadbooks which I managed to follow for 95% of the time but you took the stress out of the navigation. And you're a bit handy on that bike too.

There were surprisingly few offs. I had a little lie down in the middle of the night trying to gas my way round a corner and up a steep section. Jase, Mav and Wreford all managed to chuck it at the scenery on the same section in different places. :D

For all of the hype of blue hills 2, after the difficulties in the night it was pretty easy.

In conclusion. Yes, you can do the lands end trial on a light, modern bike with fantastic suspension, but where's the challenge in that? A lardy, unsuitable BMW will do just fine thank you. :thumby:

How was your ride home?

I slept 14hours last night and have felt jaded all day... I will be back next year and staying over.

Do you remember that black MR2 we followed from Widemouth bay? - this is it on Blue Hill http://youtu.be/HS8ai_j99Fc

The ride home this morning was cold and blurry. We went for beers when we finished, followed by a curry. Mav was asleep in the curry house while we were waiting for the food. :D I was asleep at 22.30 and up for brekkie at 7. Or 6 depending on which clock my body was on!

As for feeling jaded, I've got 2 children under 3 so I'm awake a couple of times in the night and up at 5.30 every day anyway. Damn good practice for the trial I reckon.

I don't remember the car but that's classic!

The only photo I have from this morning:-
