My son has just stood on his Dell laptop screen and damaged it beyond use. Can't really claim on house contents insurance as excess is stupidly high like all other insurances nowadays.
How easy is it to buy and replace the screen yourself? Seen new screens advertised for around the £50 mark with about the same again for fitting.

I did mine a few months back, it is fairly simple but it might take some time to work out how to remove certain pieces of the casing to get to the right screws.

Only thing I would say is how old is the laptop... as you can buy new ones for a few hundred..... and if other bits are starting to wear out etc... just a side thought... With my wifes when she dropped it we ended up replacing the whole machine for not much more than the screen...

agreed it's a ten min job, delicately remove the round rubber stoppers to expose the small screws, then the lid is a snap fit so gently prise apart.
other than that be careful removing the small block connector that links the screen to the motherboard. simple job if you take your time mate :thumb2
