Does the 30 litre large Adv. tank fit on the standard 1150 GS?
what plumbling is needed to fit it? I would love to have the extra range.
thanks from Barrie for any advice you might have

A few of us have done this, Barrie. Myself, Jim Mc & Roger Walton are the three I know & the swap is very simple. Your filler cap & tank internals will just swap over, but I would recommend getting new O rings for them as the originals swell once released. They shrink again & are then available as spares, but this takes time & the length of time can vary enormously depending on temp/humidity.

You will also need a length of fuel hose to link the two lobes down at the front of the tank. The added benefit of the Adv tank is the connecting pipe linking the two lobes so you get to use the full tank capacity instead of missing out on 3lt as you do with the std GS tank. Buy a metre of hose & two clips then cut to fit. Quick disconnectors would also be a good idea to aid future tank removal - definitely one for the connecting pipe, at least.

Lastly, a tip for draining the tank would be: Remove it from the bike & tip it backwards onto its rear end then syphon the contents into a fuel can. That way, you have the minimum amount sloshing around when you start to remove all the fittings. This is easier than trying to syphon it out whilst still on the bike & split between the two sides of the tank....

HTH,

PS: I picked up my black tank in near perfect condition (no dents) for £170 from eBay. I don't think it's possible to get them for anywhere near that cheaply any more though.....:(

Thanks Guys that sounds like a will do thing, so thanks for your help and advice. this is a great site.....
regards
Barrie.

I forgot to mention:

Your fuel guage will show full for around 70 miles then will drop at the same sort of rate as with the std tank. One bar & the fuel warning light comes on at around 250 miles &, from this point, you have around 100 miles available before needing to fill up again. At the TT, caning the bike around the course, I was filling up at around 250-270 miles & it was taking 28l+. With normal use, I fill up after 300 miles & find that I can get 26l into the tank. The look on garage cashiers' faces is great when they look at the till, then at me in bike gear, then out onto the forecourt, then back to the till & finally back to me. Then they say "is it just one bike?" :D
