Large tanks

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice on the 41 liter plastic tanks sold by various suppliers: HPH, Touratech, and Wudo. I believe they are all the same mold, but some are listed as clear, some as nylon, and some are just white plastic.

they are sold with a mounting kit, which I presume to be a set of mounts that get bolted on the front frame downtubes to support the lower 'cheeks' of the tank on each side. I've heard some grumbling about difficult fitting. Is this just the seat issue with the Paralevers or are there other issues?

Just curious if anyone has experience with these - can you recommend the nylon over the plain plastic? Clear seems to me to be the most practical choice.

Of course, what I would really like is the old 32 liter PD tank for my G/S, but I haven't found one yet that I wouldn't have to mortgage for.

Any other good options on your side of the pond? There aren't many tank manufacturers here in North America.

The difference between the two is one is paintable, the other isn't. I didn't know there were three options.

Fitting kit consists of, as you say, a pair of lugs to slip the lower front "cheeks" of the tank onto, and also a bracket at the rear to bolt the tank securely.

I've had to tweak mine a little but the bike came with the tank fitted and also a one-off subframe which I have replaced with a standard subframe.

Hey, thanks for the info. I think that maybe the nylon paintable and clear tanks are one in the same. Now that you have sorted out the seat, do you like the tank?? I've heard that they are pretty heavy, even empty.

They carry their weight very low down so it's not a problem. In fact my R100GS seems to have a lower centre of gravity than my F650 GS Dakar.
I've never filled it completely though, I'm not a rich man.

I agree, My 100 came with a black painted tank. Ive had the whole bike dismantled and refitting the brackets etc was a doddle. Not too difficult to take off either unless its full. The weight is low down and I can "scratch" withthe best( in our local club) it is very stable. I would question the need though. 450 miles is a long way between fill ups. I suppose in americy that might just get from one ranch to the next. Does make the beast look proper though. Mine is on the paralever section if you want to see one fitted.

Well, you see here in Canada the roads are long and the towns can be far between

Also, my G/S has a thirst for the dino juice that I haven't been able to curb as of yet. Hopefully a thorough re-jetting will solve the problem, but I'm sick of running out at 200km, which is what she does now.

Also, we have ambitions to do South America soon, and I hear the extra fuel capacity can come in handy there.
