Thank God you were never called upon to be the rear gunner in a Lancaster, flying to the Ruhr. You’d be forced to add very cold to your first world horror.

:beerjug:
My father was rear gunner in Lancasters in WWII. He too would have complained about missing breakfast before a 6 hour flight, no matter where he was going.

Got a plan to see some other places so a 1 way car hire and a snaking route
Either north to south or reverse

Chapeau..... my great-uncle was in Lancasters as wireless operator. Unfortunately shot down and killed over eastern Holland....buts thats off topic and for another thread.....

Vegas is truly a dump but a great place to fly in and out of to explore Utah and beyond .
Agreed. I haven't been there in years but it used to be cheap to fly to.
I don't gamble and I can't stand the place other than the airport and car rental but those with TDS should love Vegas which is anti-Trump.

I don't get "not going to the US because Trump is president"? I don't think you're going to run into the man. Other than a little less crime and fewer illegals it's the same place. I despised Obama as a person and president but it sure didn't stop me from traveling around the country.

Don't try and reason or employ logic with them mate. It only angers them more.

Bizarre isn’t it !
I still love the US but don’t visit as often as I used to and don’t often get time to exit the city where I’m staying . Still hoping to get to ride in Utah next year .
Some very blinkered opinions on here . The funniest one was from someone who went to Portugal twice and denounced them all as unfriendly cùnts and has now crossed the country off his map 🤣
We’ve been to Portugal many times and always found the locals very friendly and welcoming .
I guess you get back what you put in .

Maybe met Dave both times?

....Vegas which is anti-Trump."
@ Clifton
I think you might need to go back -;everyone in my community there ('Summerlin') is falling-of-the-scale Trump in their support. At a State level Governor Joe Lombardo (R) is a Summerlin resident neighbour

Central Las Vegas is more Democrat because of the hospitality labor unions but elsewhere, it's a different story.

I have a Canadian ex-cop former colleague who owns a house in St George, Utah and he won't winter in the property until Pres. Trump is gone from office. The bitterness north of the 49th is palpable and lasting.

I hope to as well. Back in 2008 for a few years a friend and I used to trailer our DR650's to Utah driving straight through to Moab to leave his van and trailer, and ride for 8-10 days. Starting in 2014 we left the bikes at a friend's house in Phoenix which allowed us to fly out in spring and fall to ride the Southwest. I haven't been back since 2020.

I recall reading that post which surprised me because I've heard nothing but positive about Portugal and the people there. But I guess one can have a bad experience most anywhere.

I normally head up to Boulder for brek at the South West diner

Just 20 minutes drive .
We stayed for a night in Boulder City on our way to Monument Valley.

Had planned to return to the South West Diner, but decided to give the Boulder City Supper Club a try. Absolutely excellent!

My brother visited America many times, with work, and a car salesman I talked to from America both told me America is great, the people not so much.
Which is why I mostly spend time in Scotland amongst wonderful people........mostly! :D
I've been lucky enough to visit a few of the States and for the most part the people have been fabulous, notwithstanding a few clowns who tried to force me off the road when I was on my GSA.
Now we're both retired we're very keen to go back, meet more of the people and see more States but as mentioned previously we're not putting a penny directly into their economy while he's President.

Like many others, the Adelson family appear to have enriched them selves nicely from roots in LV Sands to Casinos in Macau, Singapore & possibly the Gaza Riviera idc. The Venetian & Palazzo LV were sold a few years back. Great financial supporters of Trump of course, provided he remembers to do their bidding.

With roots in corruption & organised crime, aided by the State legalising gambling in Casinos, whilst instigating various & legal relaxations, I guess it was inevitable that a somewhat seedy City would develop. The decline was well underway when we last visited, but I suspect it will be the parlous condition of Lake Mead that will decide ultimately the long term future viability of Sin City.

Like others, we were saddened by the level of gambling addiction on display - hapless folk playing the slots day & night. Whilst I can't recall which joint he was visiting, an old friend of ours hit the jackpot with his first attempt on the slots - instantly he & his group were being videoed, before being whisked away by hostesses to some party room for champagne/cocktails, then tickets to the show that night - all a bit surreal apparently, he thought it had to be a fix, but I guess the razzmatazz serves to encourages the other pathetic punters.

Sad indeed. At one time Vegas was about the only place gambling was legal. Now that most states are running gambling themselves people can gamble legally most everywhere. I see it as a voluntary tax, unfortunately those least able to afford it are the ones which contribute. Ironically our state uses a portion of the proceeds to run ads. "Addicted to gambling? I love America, it’s always been a top 5 place for me to visit …. And I’ve enjoyed many great trips and met some great people…. ( an exception being the two guys that tried to carjack my rental convertible in Miami)

And a great day was meeting Clifton in WV for lunch…..

So, sorry Clifton I know you are GOP through and through.

But I fear that Trump and entourage are a cancer on the American people and the sooner it’s cut out the better……. Hopefully he will loose congress and the senate in the mid terms and some of his power will be curbed…..

He’s no statesman for sure….( these are the opinions of the author)

Sometimes it feels like the US is only two chapters away from the Handmaids Tale….

I spent a week in Vegas every year for five years at a conference…. Always bolted a few days on, hired a Harley …. The area around Vegas offers some fantastic riding…..

Also, whilst I stayed at The Wynn (££££££) I spent all my free time on Fremont Street where I felt more at home….

Also The Sphere gave me vertigo……

I used to enjoy an early morning walk on the strip…. (Jet lag) and with exception of Delhi it was only place I’ve visited with human shit on the streets…..but to be fair over Delhi …. They did have a clean up squad going around clearing it up…

The wynn charges $25 for a bottle of water you can buy at CVS for $6……if you put your 6$ bottle in the room fridge……they bill you $25………

I asked for coffee making facilities in my room……..”sure, $80 a day… we will be right up….”……errr fuck off

I’ve also been to Russia but won’t be going there either for a while

Two countries run by despot leaders ready to sacrifice anyone and anything to save their own skin, their word means nothing, they are both dangerous megalomaniacs

The only real difference is that Putin is intelligent, and he owns Trump, which makes both of them more dangerous

Sorry for the thread drift
