Firstly a big thanks to every one who replied to my ignition problem.
Finally tracked it down to the wiring between the barrel and the tank.
I am going to try and look at it as B*W want about £38 for a replacement and then there is the labour.
Surely it is only a few wires with a plug on either end?
Can the wiring be disconnected from both ends without too much trouble or do I have to remove the ignition barrel as it says in the Clymer manual?
Any thoughts on this last ignition question (promise) would be appreciated.
Obviously once I have solved this I will find something else to repair.

Cheers.

The molex plug that goes to the bike should be easy enough to take apart - each pin/socet is held in by two 'legs' - they are springy - you should be able to push them back together using very small screw drivers (there is a special tool for this - just a tube of the right size) then the pin/socket will be able to pass back throught the molex plastic and out the side where the wires are.

The ignition switch will be soldered - once you get to the bottom of the switch.

You can solder new wires to both the molex connector and the switch - use the original plastic tube and it will look original .. you may find it hard to find wires with the same colour code... most people settle for something close.
