Last of the farkles ?

Lovely pics, is that the + lead above the connector ! I ask because im going to fit the fly lead of my CTEK charger so i can keep the battery up to scratch over the winter.

DON’T plug a battery charger in over winter. The battery can handle being left. The best way to wreck a BMW battery is to leave it on charge over the winter. :rob

Ohh ? Never knew that, first ive heard of that happening. Please explain why it does as you say

By leaving it on charge the whole time, you’re weakening the battery. Unless you’ve got a load of electrical accessories on the bike, and won’t be riding for months, a modern battery will be fine being left.

Nutty is correct, I plug my battery in every 2 months for 24 hours when optimate 4 is showing green, then unplug it, obvously if bike has not been out for 2 months........;)

Trickle charges employ the use of a battery regulator to regulate charging rate and prevent overcharging, charging your vehicle's battery at a rate similar to the rate at which it self-discharges so as to maintain full battery capacity. Charging at too fast of a rate or overcharging can cause damage to the battery

Del listen to experience I have killed 2 batteries over the years leaving them plugged in, using optimate 3 and optimate 4, its your choice now.....;) since doing the 2 month 24 hour or even more if you have no alarm on the bike, batteries have been good.

Exactly why I wouldn’t ever but an optimate, they are AFAIC crap !

I forsee a Ctek vs Optimate thread in my delboy777 crystal ball.........

No i doubt it. Ive never owned an Optimate but have read countless stories from peeps whose Optimate’s caused fried batterys and in one case a fire. That was enough for me. Never read anything negative about Ctek ones.
