Currently planning the tail end of a week and a bit around France. Have booked up to Riquewihr and heading back in the Calais direction but have 3 nights to fill before then. I've bought and read a couple of general travel books that all recommend the usual castles, wine tasting and all that but I'm wondering what you lot would do with 3 days to kill between say Colmar and Calais.

I was thinking of a night in Metz, one in Reims then the last one closer to the coast, somewhere within a reasonably easy driving distance of Calais as we've a fair bit of milage to do when we get off the train. Other than "go drink Champagne" all the guide books don't seem to have much to suggest for the area around Reims.

Plenty of threads in the Battlefield and Military Interest section. Take a gander. Plenty to see in 3 days.:thumb2

No brainer for me from Colmar I would have a day in the Vosges mountains. Then off to Reims to look at the Cathedral and sample Champagne (book in advance for the champagne houses) and then head back to Calais via the Reims Historic Race Track (what's left of it) and the excellent D6 and D938 for a twistie alternative to the motorway :thumb2

The old centre of Strasbourg is really nice too - the cathedral has a spectacular facade and there's a cheap but modern Ibis with courtyard parking right next to it (we paid 37Euros) :thumb2

We stopped there on the way from Zeebrugge to the Alps and visited the Verdun WW1 cemetery and memorial on the way and rode the Routes Des Cretes the next day - an absolutely cracking road

Thanks guys. Already planned on spending at least a day around the Vosges/Route Des Cretes area. Staying in Riquewihr so wont be too far away.

I'll have to look at booking one of the champagne house tours in Reims, had looked at a couple of hotels there but I didn't like the look of the parking arrangements at some of them. I suppose I've gotten too used to living in a place where someone will mess with your parked up bike just because they can.

Also found a couple of B&Bs on the route up to Calais for those all important days in the countryside away from everything. I think I'm pretty much sorted.
