Right, no more prevarication.
I have moved the resolution of my diary dates onto the front burner.
This Wander is a goer.
Now, what's what...
(1) I have emailed John suggesting some dates over which we can stay at his hotel and then enjoy / share his ride down to Slovenia. As as soon as I have his confirmation I will be able to sort out our outward leg.
(2) Pencilled in to my diary are:
Thursday 18 September early train out, say around 08:30
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and half of Sunday ride down to Malta, using reasonably suitable roads. That is three and a half days on the road. It can be done in less, of course. I am suggesting we take a little longer and avoid too much motorway. Even so, it will probably still mean three two hundred plus mile days. Total three nights.
Half of Sunday thro to Thursday 25 September, spent at John's hotel, riding about / doing whatever. Total four nights.
Thursday 25 September ride with John to Slovenia. John will fix the accommodation etc.
Friday 26 September and Saturday 27 September spent with John in Slovenia. Total three nights.
Total number of nights away so far: 10.
Sunday 28 September depart Slovenia......
(3) Now comes the tricky bit....
John is thinking of possibly returning via the Adriatic Coast, a ferry over to Italy and back to where he lives in Malta. That may work for him as it's his holiday but WE still have to get home....
So, I have asked John when he expects to be back at Malta, to see if I can make anything work.
If, as is likely, it will take too long if we include the Adriatic and Italy legs we will probably have to come back from Slovenia, starting on back on Sunday morning. That is not a particular huge problem to work out. It can be done in a day if necessary but I'd rather not. Let's say three days, to arrive back at Calais in time for an early evening train on Tuesday 30 September. Two nights.
I make that a total of 13 days away and 12 nights in hotels. That does not look unrealistic, I hope.
Bare with, as they say.....
Now, how does that broad plan suit everyone?
