Tis all shaping up nicely, I too am happy with all options, although it has to be said that a couple of months ago when we were on holiday, Rovinj was happily ensconced in Istria:D.
We had thought about flying Debbie into Austria as per John's suggestion as she's not too keen on big miles on the back, but will watch this trip develop with interest. :clap

I am keen to do it all if I can get the leave, but at the very least happy with Croatia. Depending on route, may make our own way to or from Malta, as I like to ride on my own occasionally. :)

Come and see us at the NEC

We have, as usual, a stand at Motorcycle Live, the big bike show at the NEC. Anyone interested in this trip, or indeed just coming to stay with us in Austria, is invited to come along to our stand. Hall 4 Stand C51, see you there!

John

I'm afraid I may have to put this jaunt on hold until 2015.

Better to flag it up now than June of next year.

Leave it with me until the end of February as I am trying to juggle a couple of things about.

Richard

Your route takes you through Freiburg which is a lovely stop over .... (I'm sure you knew that .... :P)

Great hotel bang next to the cathedral .... :thumb2

Richard

Just seen this (note to self-Pay attention!)

For those of you interested we will be going to Croatia in 2014 anyway so if you feel up to facing the terrors of crossing Europe without the guiding hand of Wapping let me know.

John

Hi John
I not sure whats happening with this this thread, but me and the misses would love to attend, I've travelled from the northeast down to Corfu where my two brother lives about a dozen times now on bike going though Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, other routes too.

Graham

What's happening, is that I am trying to juggle two sets of dates around (probabably to make three) in the hope that I can still make this Wander go ahead. My honest hope is that I can, not least as I want to go and do not want to let the others down. I also have in mind that John wants to get his rooms booked out.

The list of Wanderers so far is complete at 10 bikes:

1. Wapping

2. paintman (and maybe Mrs paintman)

3. Coolcarbon & Mrs Coolcarbon

4. Kev B

5. Pablo1

6. Slimpickings

7. Johnny Boxer

8. Timeandtide

9. Monty (and Mrs Monty)

10. zei220

Got Coolcarbon's option.

I think we should be OK for the Wander to go ahead, I just need to be certain when something else might be happening.

I will know by the end of February (hopefully earlier) how things are shaping up. That will leave me lots of time to book our hotels etc. It will also leave good time (several clear months) for bods to make alternative arrangements for their holiday too, should things go awry.

Ah, don't be so glum.

I'll add you in, too.

That's it 11 bikes...

Now to see if I can get the dates sorted out. It's easier to juggle chainsaws! 11 bikes and whatever number bods makes booking hotels a bit tricky but hey-ho, all part of the fun.

Leave my name in Richard I thought you had all your folk

Thanks

Happy to have you along, KGB.

2 Wheel humvee, Steve. I am happy to have you along, too.

That is now 12 bikes and I dread to think how many bods.

That's it, no more. Shop shut. Gone away. Lalalala, can't hear you. Hotel hunt will be interesting, for sure..... Watch this space.

Richard

PS Seriously, this is becoming a big group. I don't mind at all providing I can sort out the hotels. Depending on how and when we go, it might well be best to ride in smaller groups or fuelling and comfort / lunch / tea stops etc may take forever. Let's see how things pan-out.

Cheers, will confirm travelling plans nearer the time dependant on other commitments but agree smaller groups is definitely the way to travel the liaison routes.

Right, no more prevarication.

I have moved the resolution of my diary dates onto the front burner.

This Wander is a goer.

Now, what's what...

(1) I have emailed John suggesting some dates over which we can stay at his hotel and then enjoy / share his ride down to Slovenia. As as soon as I have his confirmation I will be able to sort out our outward leg.

(2) Pencilled in to my diary are:

Thursday 18 September early train out, say around 08:30

Thursday, Friday, Saturday and half of Sunday ride down to Malta, using reasonably suitable roads. That is three and a half days on the road. It can be done in less, of course. I am suggesting we take a little longer and avoid too much motorway. Even so, it will probably still mean three two hundred plus mile days. Total three nights.

Half of Sunday thro to Thursday 25 September, spent at John's hotel, riding about / doing whatever. Total four nights.

Thursday 25 September ride with John to Slovenia. John will fix the accommodation etc.

Friday 26 September and Saturday 27 September spent with John in Slovenia. Total three nights.

Total number of nights away so far: 10.

Sunday 28 September depart Slovenia......

(3) Now comes the tricky bit....

John is thinking of possibly returning via the Adriatic Coast, a ferry over to Italy and back to where he lives in Malta. That may work for him as it's his holiday but WE still have to get home....

So, I have asked John when he expects to be back at Malta, to see if I can make anything work.

If, as is likely, it will take too long if we include the Adriatic and Italy legs we will probably have to come back from Slovenia, starting on back on Sunday morning. That is not a particular huge problem to work out. It can be done in a day if necessary but I'd rather not. Let's say three days, to arrive back at Calais in time for an early evening train on Tuesday 30 September. Two nights.

I make that a total of 13 days away and 12 nights in hotels. That does not look unrealistic, I hope.

Bare with, as they say.....

Now, how does that broad plan suit everyone?

Richard

Just one tiny point, it's Croatia we are heading for, we will ride through Slovenia on the way. Got to go now, guests are arriving!
