Just been to see the new bikes at Ocean. They have a couple of GSAs in a matt dark'ish blue. What a fabulous looking bike. The styling around the tank and front is so much better than the normal GS IMO. The black frame also looks better and hides the frame holes nicely, I plugged them on my '13 GS but would still have to plug the holes at the top of the GSA crash bar. I like the credit card/toll ticket cubby hole at the front of the tank. The black engine cases look better as well......just wish the seat was a bit lower so that I was more secure or if it had a reverse for those awkward parking situations. Hope to test ride it next week.

Just test Rode the New GSA in Blue and you will be blown away . I went thinking it cant be any better than my current GSA , but it moves the game on in a way the 1200 did for me over the 1150, 8 years ago today when I test rode the new GSA1200 . Its a belter of a bike and so easy to ride , and fast !!

Not me for the GSA

Side by side with the stock WC GS yesterday - I'd take the GS with wires.

The new GSA looks a bit comedy now in the 3rd generation

Loved the RNineT though - it looked great

I know what you mean but would describe it as a cartoon caricature ..... I really don't like the mix of gold fork tubes, silver frame and silver motor of the LC GS but if they built (and I'm sure they probably will) a Triple Black version?

Tend to agree with you JB, at the NEC they had a 1200 WCGS Enduro, spokes and a single seat... Looked spot on...GPS and soft luggage it would be the mutts.... If I ever ventured down this path, this would be the way.....

It’s nice that BMW offer us the choice I really like them both. I thought about them and went with the Adventure but could have gone either way. The biggest complaint with my previous GSA was the heavy feeling front end most noticeable at low speed. I can say the GSAw does not have this issue.

With it's wide front, upper and lower bars, big ammo can luggage and racks, I've always felt the GSA’s to be a bit too "Rambo" looking for my taste. Plus this current one is listed as 48 pounds heavier. Then again the regular GS has it's own styling quirks, the radiator fangs in particular. I prefer cast wheels which unfortunately don’t come on the GSA.

The GS's vario luggage when collapsed looks better than the GSA boxes. And a GS looks great with vario’s off because the big ugly brackets are absent. Opened up, the Varios are larger than Adventure bags but only hold the same. As far as function and usefulness there's no comparison, top-load bags are easier to fill and effectively hold more than side-loaders.
With side load bags the right side is the most convenient to use since it’s angled up when on the side stand. But since BMW moved the muffler to the right that is now the small bag and especially when collapsed it’s difficult to fit things in and get the lid closed because the bottom is only 3" inches wide.

I would have preferred Jesse's which are narrower but I went ahead and bought the Adventure bags since the bike came with the mounts. For short rides and day trips they stay off anyway, I pack my stuff in a soft bag that rests on the rear rack and seat (I will probably convert to a solo seat.) For longer rides and camping trips the big, ugly, practical, aluminum boxes go on. Once at the camp site they function wonderfully as an ice chest. :D

The Adventure's large tank is nice to have sometimes. Actually if you only fill it with 5 gallons like a GS holds, and the GS has crash bars, driving light mounts, etc. like the GSA comes with, there’s probably only 25 pounds difference in weight between them. I find the GSA more comfortable with it’s taller seat and a little more suspension never hurts. I also like the off idle power delivery with it’s heavier flywheel effect. Windshields on the GSA and GS both work fine for me, I usually just leave them down except in rain. In rain the GSA's larger shield and wingletts do offer more protection though.

They do look the mutts nuts, sir...........................yes indeedy

I saw a few of the new GSAs out and about yesterday, they looked really nice. So today I thought I'd go and have a look at the new range of R1200s at one of the show rooms. Southport is nearest to me, followed by Manchester and Shipley. The ride to Southport and Manchester is boring, whereas there are good biking roads to Shipley. Also, the weather forecast showed really nice weather on t'other side of the Pennines so I thought I'd have a ride over to Shipley.

Other than the nice ride-out, what a waste of bloody time, Alan Jeffries was shut! :blast

I couldn't believe that a bike showroom would be shut on a Sunday. On getting home, I checked on-line for the opening hours of a few BMW dealers around the country, it looks like about half of them can't be bothered to open on a Sunday. They obviously don't need the business!

The Northwest seems best served, all the dealerships open 7 days a week, I should've gone for the boring ride to Southport or Manchester

I know, I'm just used to all Bike, and car, showrooms being open 7 days a week in this area, I didn't expect them to be closed on a Sunday.

You should have come up to the showroom in East Kilbride to see me, Bob.....:thumb2

I own a car dealership and will never open on a Sunday. It is a commitment to my own ethics; part of which is motivated by the belief that if you can't make enough to do you in 6 days you're either greedy or just not very good at business. More importantly the guys who work with/for me are massively important to me and I would rather they got some time off and spent it with their families than be slaves to modern demands for consumption. So, am sure the staff at the dealership you visited aren't massively concerned they weren't present to offer sir a test-ride. Maybe cut them some slack and visit on a week night or one of your days off?

Headed east up to John Clark at Dundee early Saturday morning. Too early for the pig which was ill timing on my part. The new GSA looks spot on and I will be amazed if I don't trade in for one next year come May time.

I do wonder why they don't open on a Sunday, it being the busy biking day and all that.
I can take on board what you're saying SiJ and obviously AJs and other dealers do well enough not to have to open on a Sunday but we are a 24/7 society now.
Odd as this sounds bearing in mind the above, I do like the way France and Germany etc still hold Sundays as special and few places open like they do in the UK.
