Dont use it very often and TBH love the quest but if its going to cost a forune to upgrade the maps i might as well just get a new one

I've just updated a Quest to City Navigator 2009 (CN replaced City Select, AFAIK). Cost is abou 60 quid online at www.garmin.com

Garmin also have the NT maps - anybody know whay they have so many????????

NT = New Technology. This is a compressed format where the GPS needs to uncompress the mapping data before it uses it. Means that the same mapping can fit into a smaller space and require less memory.

Earlier Garmins like the SP III, Quest and SP 2610 can't do this. They don't have suitable processing grunt or the firmware to handle both the decompressing and other regular GPS duties. IMHO this is why there are complaints about the Quest 2 being laggy and slow, it just can't cope with what's asked of it. The legacy mapping, i.e. City Navigator (without the NT designation) is for these devices. It'll still work on NT capable ones, just not the other way around.

You could always try looking for a Garmin Quest cracked maps 'torrent' on the web, and download what you find.
It worked for me.................:augie
