As we all know the present top box is totally inadequate for the size of the bike and price.....

I heard a whisper that they are going to make a bigger one, is there any truth in this?

What's wrong with the size of the top box? It fits a full face helmet.

There are larger alternatives on the market - Givi for example who I think offer a 42l box ..... but I for one find the standard box plenty big enough so I wouldn't agree that it's totally inadequate (I don't need to put two helmets in mine however)

Not heard anything re bmw doing a bigger top box,
Went for the givi equivalent and the slightly bigger size makes a difference,
Re keyed it to use the bmw key, comparable quality dry and 42 litres ,
the bmw top box bag can be stuffed and still drop in easily with gaps for stuff around it,
The bigger givi 58 litre box looks ok if you have the panniers on ,
The limiting factor is how much weight on the rear rack when riding,
Roamer

Let me think...........oh perhaps it's a lot of people need it to take 2 helmets (IMO)

I've only got one head. If swmbo insists on going out on the bike, she can carry her fuckin helmet when stopping for a bit of scoff.:D

Sounds like most people that have replied use the top box as a "helmet box" and for that purpose it ok for one BUT if you want to take a flask and sarnies then your stuffed for putting anything else in it. I for one would like it a tad bigger.

My Vario box is always full, though unexpanded. I've no idea what's in there*.

*I'm lying. Loads of shit:- Waterproof over-jacket, over-trousers, spare gloves, hi-vis vest, tool-kit, puncture kit(s), electric tyre pump, vinyl gloves, spare set of rear brake pads (why???), fleece jacket, wet-wipes. There's also just enough room for my man-bag. ;-)

My Neotec with the SHO1 doesn't fit the standard box even with nowt in it, its shite......

Not true at all. I went on a climbing trip to Cornwall and in the top box I put my climbing bag with rope, full rack, harness, shoes, chalk bag etc. The vario is a brilliant box.

Each to their own,

I always tour with the top box empty to put our 2 lids in when we stop

I keep the side boxes on too when we tour so I can put jackets in them when the gear is in the hotel room or b'n'b

All very civilized really

"Not true at all"....Think you mean you disagree! BUT if you put ALL your climbing gear in your top box "ether tin box or Vario" and a helmet, all I can say is you have a very small helmet :comfort
