Nicely timed input from Count. A new generation of post Charley and Ewan GS riders making their opinion count is a good thing in the LC section. MPG and oil consumption worries are a thing of the past, it is about HP and lap times here.

Perhaps a Fire blade, R1 or Ducati Panigale would have been a more appropriate purchase if these are your biking requirements.

I averaged 38 on the old one. Not filled the new one up yet, so I can't say.
I am a BMW man, also have 1000RR.
I am my own man, I just happen to have a BMW at the moment ..

Why? Obviously power and handling do matter to people who want a bike like the GS, which is wht Ducati brought out the new Multistrada, and why BMW gave it such a ppower bump and changed the wheel sizes.

Just did a run over to Inverary from Falkirk and back via Tyndrum - 184mls (reset when I filled in Falkirk).
Refilled in Falkirk again and took 16.12 ltrs(3.455 gals) equates to 51mpg.
Not bad as making usual rapid progress
and about 25mls of motorway.

Now done 1700 miles and the fuel consumption seems to be improving.
I did a 200 mile run to the Cotswolds and back on Saturday, followed by another hundred mile run to Finchingfield and back yesterday, all done two up with panniers - my speed was generally higher than I would have done on my twin-cam because the LC just seems to be happier at +10mph over the twin-cam. Computer now says 56mpg
I know the computer is pretty accurate because I have checked it against the trip and fill-up volumes.
I conclude that the new LC is more fuel efficient than my previous two 1200s.
I doubt that there is another 125bhp motorcycle from any manufacturer that is as fuel efficient as the latest GS.

Hope mine improves ave. 46MPG over 500 miles this weekend to the Thundersprint and back 200 across country the rest motorway/duel carriage way.

I detect a little Freudian influence in your comment.
Ride the mid-range torque cross country, stay off the brakes, maintain high average with better corner speed and keep it below indicated 80 on the motorway and I'm sure you'll be seeing nearer 60mpg.
As a favour just for you I'll run it for a couple of hundred miles, just to check I'm correct.

Hahah, sorry for the typo, it was a quick post, while sitting in my favourite place at work!
I don't ride the brakes, I try to carry corner speed but under 80 on a motorway FFS what do you think I am an old man!
I was with my best mate and anything under 90 and he's spitting feathers!
We were on a run back from the Anglesey late on Sunday, got home at 1:20am!
Got a feeling the chaps here getting 50mpg+ went to the, convent school of driving!!

Sunday morning wasn't great and it was cold but not bad. Wanted to stay Sunday night but the place was pretty deserted so rode home :-(
Mine went up to 58mpg this morning on my 25 mile back-road commuter form my girlfriend's place to work - mostly stuck to the speed limits on 'B' and 'C' roads.
This bike is defo more fuel efficient than the twin-cam - I think somewhere BMW claim 6% better, seems about right to me.
