Bloody pheasant smashed my headlight lens today. Has anyone replaced the assembly? -or can I get a replacement lens. It's quite a big unit and I'm sure it won't be cheap. Drat!!

Might get ready to claim on my insurance if its that bad!! I thought that lens was almost instructible!!
Or cheer yourself up by looking at how (relatively) inexpensive headlight guards are. 
There was a thread on here not long ago where a few well-intentioned folk said not to bother with them as they were an unnecessary expense, along with radiator and oil cooler guards. So much good advice to be had here! Mind you, just as many advised to fit them!

First time its happened to me in 40 years of riding so dont suppose thats too bad. I know one thing though- it wont be a bargain, unless the lens can be fitted, as the unit works perfectly.
A couple on eBay might be worth making an offer or you should get 10% / 15% off at your dealer.

I dont suppose anyone knows if the gs and adv have the same headlight unit?? Couple on ebay are off Gs`s.
It's reasonable to assume that any LED headlights on ebay have been nicked unless there's a GOOD explanation: will they not have serial numbers and do they need to be coded to the bike? (I am sure that coding is needed for speedo's)

Good point that- looks like a genuine breaker though.
I certainly don't wish to rub salt into the wound but I also read the thread the other day about guards being a waste of time, I don't like the look of mine and it is a pig to clean the lens but it clearly shows that when 'what if' becomes 'if only' it starts to get expensive

My headlamp guard is very simple and very cheap (from a member on this site) and OK for small stone impacts:
BUT it's attached to the lamp body and I'm convinced that a direct impact from a pheasant at speed would destroy the entire unit; I've seen large bird strikes, destroy fairings and bigger birds can destroy the rider.

Just find another GS WC and nick the LED headlight.......it's what happens to the ones sold on ebay

Too true. It's easy to think that I was unlucky but it was a big bird and if it would have hit me ( or the bars ) 2016 would have got off to an awful start!!
I do 20k miles per year and this is the first bird strike I have had. A few quid will sort it out. Still convinced that a headlight protector would not have helped too much- the whole unit was pushed off its mounts too.

If you have fully comp insurance then make a claim, especially if you have no claims protection too.
800 for a headlight I nearly spat my dinner out that's stupid how
That's the downside to LED headlights.
