Hi. has anyone had problems getting insurance for the new model?
tried to change my existing policy to new lc and Motorcycle direct will not cover the new model, said Quote ,"all underwriters will not recognise new model" said i would have to cancel my policy . at great cost as only renewed last month , any help greatly appreciated . george:mad:

Just phone your insurance company, tell them it is a 2013 BMW R1200GS, give them the reg number, and they will insure it. As soon as you mention LC or WC, they get confused as it doesn't exist.:rob

yep that happened to me to (e-bike) had to cancell policy with a cost of £75
went with bmw, because they know the bike, try them :D

I use Motorcycle direct and had no problem getting policy changed for my new LC, even got a reduction on the admin fee.:bounce1

+1

It's not rocket science

Same for me, just told them R1200GS 2013 and gave correct values etc. Quote no problem and in fact the documents I think have the MY13 text. The guy on the phone knew it was the new LC but his system simply had MY13 as the differentiator to the old model.

hi, when did you get the ins from mcd .i still have problem the manager said the underwriters do not regognise ? who is your policy with underwriter etc ,
cheers

Best quote I had for mine was Bennetts (for my RT and my old DL1000). Had the old Strom insured with Motorcycle Direct until they tried hitting me up for a ridiculous renewal price.

Underwriters are highway, as mentioned above they won't recognise the bike if you say it's an LC it's a 2013 GS, the TE model is on their list I just upgraded from a 2011 GS so paid a small fee to change paperwork. If you have the reg number that should help.

I had this last year changing insurance to a 1200 Rallye. It may not be rocket science but knowing how slimey insurance companies can be, when they asked what model GS it was, I told them. It was not shown on their system as they don't update as new models come out, they update annually or whatever. Got it sorted in the end

BMW just changed policy over to new bike, it shows as a R1200gs 2013, on my cover note. They waved the £30 fee and premium went up by £13 for the increase in value and no alarm.

That's interesting, mines due for renewal in December new bike due 21st of May.
BMW quoted £75 to change including £34 admin fee.

Looks like I'm gonna have to twist a bit harder when the time comes to change.

Steve

I called BMW insurance this week to inform them of the Akra being fitted today, and they kept the price the same, despite the additional value of the bike.:beerjug:
