I have owned a 2010 Super Tenere - loved this bike, only sold it as an illness meant I struggled with the weight. Stayed with Yamaha and bought a Tracer in 2015. That did it's job during my recovery (of sorts).
I test rode a R1200RS in Sept 2016 and immediately loved the LC engine. Like you, I had owned an R1150GS prior to my Super Ten and had deep reservations about BMW reliability after the fiasco of early 1200 GSes. I've used the RS for touring and commuting in all weathers. It does not corrode any more than any other bike I have owned. The ride is excellent and has made me a big convert to electronic suspension and other gadgets like cruise control. Perhaps I should have bought a GS as the sporty riding position on the RS makes my hip play up. This has resulted in a Triumph Explorer joining the garage last May for longer trips - I love the RS and will be reluctant to part with it as it is lovely for short rides on the weekend and commuting. The Triumph is not yet 12 months old so no real idea about corrosion resistance. Neither the R1200 or the Triumph have had any reliability problems or recalls in the 27 months of combined ownership over about 12,000 miles.
