LC - Whats the actual score then?

I have owned a 2010 Super Tenere - loved this bike, only sold it as an illness meant I struggled with the weight. Stayed with Yamaha and bought a Tracer in 2015. That did it's job during my recovery (of sorts).

I test rode a R1200RS in Sept 2016 and immediately loved the LC engine. Like you, I had owned an R1150GS prior to my Super Ten and had deep reservations about BMW reliability after the fiasco of early 1200 GSes. I've used the RS for touring and commuting in all weathers. It does not corrode any more than any other bike I have owned. The ride is excellent and has made me a big convert to electronic suspension and other gadgets like cruise control. Perhaps I should have bought a GS as the sporty riding position on the RS makes my hip play up. This has resulted in a Triumph Explorer joining the garage last May for longer trips - I love the RS and will be reluctant to part with it as it is lovely for short rides on the weekend and commuting. The Triumph is not yet 12 months old so no real idea about corrosion resistance. Neither the R1200 or the Triumph have had any reliability problems or recalls in the 27 months of combined ownership over about 12,000 miles.

Sold my 14 plate with 14k on it and no issues during ownership. Returned to the fold with a 17 GS late last year. 3k no issues. Used both in bad weather just good wash down and ACF50.
Multi950??? Own a Ducati (1098) and it will never see rain unless caught out and have to be aware of potential costs of ownership! Multi 1200 was terrible for corrosion and that was with care. IMO Ducati much more likely to be issues though they are good at sorting problems out under warranty, as proven with mine and several other owners I know.
Had 3 BMWs without a single issue. Ducati several issues in 15 k and 2 years, but not big unlike others which included displays, engine failure, leaking forks, rear light clusters, heated grips, keyless problems...long list depending on luck.

If you believe all the doomsayers on forums you just would not by a BMW, Ducati, or anything else for that matter. One thing of worth is buying approved used BMW for warranty and the peace of mind it affords.

.........interesting how it affects only some bikes in the UK

I live near the beach which is umm...you know....close to sea water filled with salt.

In which case I don't believe you have no corrosion, despite your very low mileage. Regardless of make, any vehicle I've known, that's kept and ridden/driven on a coast succumbs.

In which case, you can go and fuck yourself then. I really could give two fucks if you believe me or not.

Just stick some close up pictures of your bike on here. That’ll show him! :D

Anyone that signs off with their name in a forum has to be a moron

Has someone got out of the wrong side of the bed?

FFS,the bloke only asked about new gs lc's and rather than get worth while data he has to scroll past child like name calling and foul language. For what its worth I have a 2.5 year old gs with 17k miles on the clock, it gets used in all weathers, I keep on top of cleaning and acf50 it regularly. There is no corrosion, uses no oil or coolant, best bike for every day use that I've owned in 35 years of biking

Hi all,
I'm thinking of coming back to the BMW fold as my Super Tenere PCP deal is up.
Not had a GS since my 1150GSA and just wondered what the actual real-deal is with the quality of the new LC bikes?
My 1150's were always "built-to-last" which I loved, but there are so many rumors surrounding the build quality, finish and reliability of the LC GS family, I wanted to sort out the fact from the fiction.
So, whats the score? Do they rot in front of you and the shaft fail every time you take it out??
For info, I'm looking at a 2015 GSA with 9k miles on it. Looks pretty much immaculate at present.
(My fall-back if I dont go GS is a Ducati 950 multi or Tiger 1200)
Any opinions or experience welcome.
Thanks

Had umpteen bikes like most on here, 5 boxers included. I have a 2014 TC which had gearbox / corrosion issues engine gearbox replaced FOC without issue. no other issues whatsoever, best bike I have ever owned, I know of many LC owners who got bored / fancied a change, nearly all are back in the fold. Streets ahead of the 1150 buy one & enjoy!

Mine is a 2015 GSA and has been flawless, zero corrosion, sweet engine, gearbox not a smooth as my 2010 model which was amazing but overall well pleased with it.
Just sold it so going down the sportbike route again for a bit but for me the GS is the perfect bike.
