LCD backlight failed

Anyone else had a similar issue ... and managed to fix it? The LCD panel backlight was initially not very bright, then intermittent, now it's failed completely. The light sensor works fine in that the two gauges illuminate clearly in low light / darkness but nothing from the LCD panel. It obviously doesn't affect the function of the bike but at this time of year I'm doing a lot of miles in the dark and it's a pita. The information on the display is fine.

Perhaps the display needs stripping and an internal lamp replacing ??

feck off, micro tiny surface mount LEDs!!!

Pretty sure you can change them, but its the mother of a PITA

Definitely not bulbs as such, but I had thought it was the panel itself that lit up. If it's tiny LED's that's more positive than a failed panel. Thanks guys.

Will be led back light but the dim first then failed suggests a failed led controller which is typically part of the LCD. These things are all surface mounted and tiny so you are going to need some seriously good soldering skills and kit assuming you can even get the part.

If it's replaceable parts I might be tempted to get it looked at by the electronic repair company we use for work, suspect they'll be better equipped to change anything than I will be with my old 25w soldering iron!

Yes that soldering iron isn't going to cut it lol

Mine went some time ago.

Only had illumination on half of the rider display.

Thankfully I had maintained the extended warranty, so was replaced by the dealer.

Probably not what you wanted to hear though.

I had exactly the same problem with the read-out on the LCD display panel on the DAB control unit in my car. The part to repair it cost £6 and Alpine fitted it for free.

It doesn't have to be a big issue.......

Fine point soldering iron and a big magnifier. Sorted.

Or send it to any electronics repair service to check the solder joints.
