Bit of a long shot, but here goes.

Shaz's mum has a Samsung LCD TV (LE26R7) and the remote control has sort of stopped working. She will switch on the TV using the main button, then have to wait for it to "warm up" (her words) before the remote will work. She's changed the batteries which hasn't made any difference, and I'm not sure what to suggest. She's not the most mobile, so relies on the remote a lot. Any ideas?

Swap TV's and see if you can out last it?

Sounds like an electronic problem around the IR receiver. Could be virtually anything, so the best bet is either warrenty (if available) or repair. Or new batteries.

:D :dabone

That's what I thought...

you can test the remote if you have a MW radio in the house

put the remote very close to the radio (with the radio on ;) )
and press one of the remotes buttons the radio should have a pulsing sound coming out of it when you press the remote keys.

you may have to tune the radio a bit to get the best frequency to work.... try a remote you do know works on the radio first.

but it sounds a bit like a dry joint on the LCD tv by the sound of it... or possibly the Flux capacitor has gone out of Phase:D

Or a camcorder. They'll usually pick up the IR light from the remote.

dilithium crystals anyone, does she leave the window open at night? as it's been know for squirrels to steal afor mentioned dilithium in on order to promote their effort in the space race.

Would say it's been know to get duff batteries, if you can test do so by either method, check that the IR port on the TV is not obstructed. Then if it needs it send for repair or claim on warranty.

best of luck.

This sounds like a common problem I have with Jackie's mother.
Like most manufacturers, Samsung's remote control can do more than just the TV. Sounds like one of the DVD/VCR/STB buttons has been pressed by mistake, so now the remote control is trying to operate a DVD VCR or STB. Happens quite a lot if the remote falls down a side of achair, is sat on, etc etc...

These three functions are selected by one of the four buttons near the standby button ( STB = Set Top Box, not STandBy) , the fourth button says "TV".

Press that, on some Samusng remote controls ( well mine, anyway) the button glows orange to indicate it has been pressed. Remote control functions will now be for the TV. The manual wil explain how toprgram the remote to work with other manufactureers DVDs VCRs etc, but my guess is yoyu do not want to go down that path...

I phoned her yesterday morning (she lives 150miles away) with a few suggestions, and to make sure that she actually HAD changed the batteries.

Her: "I've checked the batteries and they're fine"
Me: "No, I said have you CHANGED the batteries?"
Her: "I've checked them and they're fine."
Me: "Go and change the batteries."
Her: "But they're fine. Do you think I should?"
Me: "Yes."

An hour later she calls back.

Her: "Ooooo, the telly works again now that I've changed the batteries."
Me: :blast
