We regularly see requests for possible routes down to Le Mans, either for the race meetings, or as a jumping off spot for other journeys southwards.

The truth is from Calais / Caen there ain't much but at least this will bring some relief from the monotony of the motorway or major N road grinds. It runs south - north from Le Mans, so simply reverse it if you are coming the other way ;)

It is all rural D roads, including some hairpins (not on a par with the Alps, but fun), sweepers, straights. In short, most of the whole nine-yards.

One small word of caution. Some stretches are polished shiny through years of traffic. Great (and perfectly safe) in the dry but can be very slippery in the wet.....take care. :thumb

thanks
planning a bit of a trip in the summer
that route may come in very handy

I can thoroughly recommend it having done it twice in the past year, once in October when it was p*ssing down and blowing a gale and once on Sunday on the way back from the 24 hour race. Top route.
