After following the thread started by Alanace1967 i was thinking about our crossing in December 08 on our way to Spain.
Galway-Rosslare-Roscoff-Millau-Torrevieja-Marbella-Cartegenna-Porta Banus-Madrid-Calais and through the UK to Holyhead, bike serviced in Bray and back to Galway.
This was a very perilous journey, no problem with the riding or the cold just the fear of frozen road surfaces or using lightly travelled roads. My speedo was the temp gauge +1 meant open the taps and go.
The bike ate up the trip, riding our “magic carpet” K1200GT. The day before the Youtube clip we were firmly stuck snow bound in a s--- hole French town.
Still grateful to a good member of the forum (Shenzi) who called me regularly checking if we were OK and giving advise and updates.
Once past the snow the spin to Torrevieja was legendary fuel coffee and speed no stops. The GT has a bit of Hayabusa buried in its DNA.
The clip is a bit long but watch to the end the visibility was really that bad 600km at 30mph with the hazards on.

A brave man Pat. Did you appreciate that water actually begins to freeze at +4 centigrade and then expands into a solid phase at zero, so its best to take care below 4 degrees.

Glad you made it back okay on the K12, that weather looks freezing. Whens the next big trip planned ?

I once set-off to deliver a certain "Adventure Pig" to a Scottish Tosser - It was dry and the outside air temperature was +3C ......I was on my erse within 200 yards.
Pushed the bike to treated main roads and all was okay.

I think you did a grand job.

No access to the pumps due to snow so a Jerry can was the only option.

Already done last xmas, Sydney to Perth on a 800GS (great Bike, loved it).
I will post a trip report next week.:)

Did a similar trip down to Montpellier, Easter 2009.

Same bike, similar weather, snow when we got up in Clemont Ferand. Going over the top south of Millau temp was -3C. Thank God for heated grips and seats :clap

The Mrs says it all

The 3rd photo says it all. The Mrs face is a picture of appreciation. Thanks for suggesting this tour meets If I had a gun....... reminds of Me and Mrs leaving North Portugal at 4am, minus 1 forest fires and smoke, and her blue lips and fingers. I have never lived it down.

Quite the opposite spirits were high, the town we were in was shut down for the night, crap hotel not even a pub, restarant or kabab house.
We could not even buy a bottle of water.
