Went to change fuel filter as bike was not running good, when I removed the filter/pump ring plate I could see red leaf like pieces floating in the fuel.which were blocking the fuel pump.
Is this the original tank lining or an added rust coating, how and what to use to repair any help appreciated
Cheers in advance

Mine had sheets of the stuff just cleaned out the worst I think most of it just sits at the bottom of the tank. And that was 2 years ago..

Is it a tank with the blue/white colour scheme ? I only ask as I seem to encounter this problem on that paint finish of tank far more than any other colour.

Cheers
Yeh have seen plenty of sealers but nothing to remove existing coating
Frost have plenty of other complimentary products like cleaners that you use prior to using this stuff. Have a search of their website.

You do not need to reline the tank.

get out all of the loose that you can, scrape, shake it with nuts and bolts inside ( with a block off plate and NOT the fuel pump assembly installed!)

then clean it with your solvent of choice, and put it all back together with a new strainer sock and fuel filter.

mine has been MOSTLY liner free for 60,000 miles, no issues.

Been there with my 1150GS tank years ago.
As above I scraped the loose stuff off then put a 3m scourer on a piece of plastic conduit with the correct bend and scoured the remaining loose bits and smoothed down the edges of the bare metal pieces.
Keep the tank full when parked up and you should have no problems in future.
