Today the bike suddenly started leaking fluid from the clutch reservoir.

Any ideas why this would suddenly and quite noticeably start? And is there an easy fix?

I have a 2013 R1200GS LC.

When you say from the clutch fluid resevior is if from a joint or the lid? Or is it cracked or broken in some way? JJH

Known problem on 2013 models. Needs the reservoir lid and seal changing. I am sure BMW will deny it's a known problem and will empty your wallet if not under warranty.

Brilliant thanks.

I'll get in touched see what they say.

Anyone know - is it safe to ride it while I'm waiting for the replacement part?

Take the lid off and remove some of the fluid down to the mark that's inside (look in the manual for details)
The clutch reservoir fills up as the clutch wears and not removing the excess can cause clutch slip and damage to the clutch pack due to overheating plates.

Just to close this off - I ordered a new lid and seal from BMW (£32) and it has fixed the problem.

Cheers for all the help.

I have developed the same problem on my 2013 LC. Everything looks fine. I thought it may have come loose so I removed, cleaned and tightened it, but it still seeps out from the lid. I’ve slackened and retightened gently at the side that leaking. I guess it’s the seal/lid. Are there torque tightening fugues for the 4 torx bolts?
