hi everyone, i'm new and this is my first post.
me the wife and a 1150 Gs 'adventure' are currently on a round the world trip and are now in turkey after doing england to the northcape and through russia.....anyway a BMW dealer in germany changed a seal in the final drive as it was weeping from the rubber boot at the rear, just noticed here in turkey after only 5000 KM that it's leaking again but worse. has anyone suffered this too and what has been the solution, the bike is still under warranty.

It's the output shaft seal and is a fiddle to fit, involving araldite etc. Get it back to BMW pronto!

it seems it was the output seal on the gearbox, the BMW dealer in istanbul fixed this.....lets hope it holds out through IRAN !!. thanks for the advice

Surging again....

Have you had the throttle bodies balanced, if not then any surging is constantly loading and unloading the transmission which will cause the seals to start to fail.:)

had the 10000 km service done 6000 KM ago and the throttles were balanced, so they say, anyway the bike has been running well, but it's interesting what you say and i will keep an eye on things.

finally left istanbul yesterday (wise thing to do just now ), got 200 KM down the road and i notice gallons of gearbox oil spewing out of the bellows at the back of the shaft drive, i suspect they ballsed up the oil seal they replaced last week !!
now here back in istanbul. the guys who replaced the last one work in the garage with all the cars and apparently only do the PDÝ's on bikes after ýmportation. now the bike is with the bike people.

does any know what is involved in changing the gearbox output seal and any known problems to look out for ?

hoping one of these days to get to iran !!
