LED Fog lights 2014

Well that was easy. Swung into Vines this morning. 15 minutes later, i was off to work with a new fog light :beerjug:

I am constantly amazed that the Hexhead GSA auxiliary lights don't do this. Uncovered wires going into a shitty plug straight into the bulb, clearly designed on a Friday afternoon

Looks like I've just joined the club. Left hand fog flickered a few times on startup and is now out all together. Not bad for 33 days of ownership!

I gave the bike its first wash yesterday and the right fog light has gone out. It came on this morning when I stared the bike but after a slight delay, then went off again completely. I have the bike booked in for a service end of week just by pure coincidence. Dunno whether to give it the week and see if it comes back on maybe there is water inside or just call the dealer and have them order a replacement in so it will be there for Friday

Well not sure if this has been addressed by BMW or not but I sold my 2014 and now have a 2016 I've pressure washed it and touch wood no issues yet.

I got the lights looked at today. Mechanic popped out the connector and it was moist. He showed me the seal but it quite clearly is not waterproof. He recommended covering the spot lights with a small plastic bag in future when washing the bike. Seems ridiculous but sure there really isn't anything else you can do. Apparently if the light fails a whole new lamp is required as the bulb cannot be replaced. Anyway a quick wipe down and spray of WD40 seemed to do the trick. Let's hope it lasts.

Argh spoke to soon rode home from work in heavy rain last night, and both lights are out. Amazing go anywhere bike as long as you don't want to see where your going.

You would have thought BMW would have sorted this by now I started this post when I had the issue back in 2014 when my GSA fogs went out on one side. I then brought an XR and now back on a 2016 GSA and hey presto more trips back to the dealer for warranty work.

Terry we've both had this.
I think if you get the lights working - KEEP THAT BIKE !

DrRich are yours ok now, I can't believe it's still happening. After I wash my bike I blow it dry and there is loads of water trapped in the lamp body pretty poor design really.

Hi Terry

Yes I've still got my 2014MY and won't change it as the spots are working!

I've just got this one right, why roll the dice again by getting another (it's the same bike after all)??

It's 180 miles round to my excellent dealership and so nearly 1000 miles on the clock relates to fixing these lamps

Rich

Both back on today, so I expect next few trips in the rain will nock em out for good. It's going in for a service in 4 weeks so will see what happens till then.
Managed to get them working on my 2014 and the new owner has had it over a year now with no more problems.
Oh well ding ding round two

I had one fail at high altitude in Austria and a dealer in Germany changed the spot but it still didn't work.

They said it was the loom :blast well on way back it decided to work again and nearly two years later it's never failed since :nenau

Hi Jon long time no see, may catch up on an Oxford ride out some time. I've disconnected mine at the lamp end and given them a good dose of ACF50
They are back on so hopefully cured.

Help

Hi Everyone.

Just got an E4 2017 GSA and first wash same left hand light issue. Didn't read this first so took it off bracket wiggled cable and sprayed wd40 and after an hour or so must have "dried" out and started working.

I'd like to disconnect and clean up or coat the connectors but don't know how to get the connector block off the back of the light.

Is there a technique / clip etc I need to know about ?

Cheers

Jim

Ps rest of bike great !!!

Insert a thin blade screw driver into the hole at the front feel for the clip / release tab then pull connector off. Yes I know why bloody things are useless
