I was in my local dealers today with a few questions.
I was looking at buying a nearly new 1250GSA without LED headlight.
I asked the procedure and was told they were looking at least Sept for upgrades and possibly next year but more disturbing was that he said the ‘voucher’ was not transferable to the second owner. Only valid to the original purchaser.
Has anyone heard this as the timeframe has slipped from a couple of months to a year then bikes are being sold and the second owner may be left high and dry!

Maybe that fact can help you negociate the bike for lower price. My GS is my first bike with factory fitted LED. But in last 10 years, I installed on the bikes I was buying the "zDatt" H4 or H7 (depending on the bike) LED bulb and it always worked perfectly wihout the problem of the beam pattern, durability or the look of it. Right now, I guess you can get zDatt LED bulbs for around £20.

Its not just as simple as the std headlight not being LED, you dont get the auto headlight function with the daytime running light, and presumably the std headlight is not adaptive? either.

As and when the upgrade is done to LED I assume those functions will return ?

Sort of, ;)

There not lost, just cant be used / seen unless you have an LED headlight.

The new 2022 LED unit has auto leveling in the Z & Y axis dependent on speed, load and angle .

If its just a std incandescent unit, load is by way of a manual lever adjustment, and there is no auto leveling in Z & Y.

Daylight running light is just dipped beam - always on (as per the old hexhead)

he said the ‘voucher’ was not transferable to the second owner. Only valid to the original purchaser.

That is outrageously unreasonable of BMW and I'd of thought will increase depreciation of that particular bike too!

I asked exactly the same question at the dealership recently. They told me that the voucher is associated with a specific bike, but the owner was able to spend it on other BMW stuff if they preferred. If the previous owner hasn't used it, the voucher could be transferred to the new owner. They said they could find out about the voucher status by looking on the computer system.

They also said it was difficult to get a replacement unit, as stock is mainly being used on brand new bikes, and there isn't much available to the dealers for retrofits.

I recently bought an ex-demonstrator with a halogen headlight. The dealer said that they didn't have a voucher to transfer so they gave me a letter in lieu, signed by the sales manager, to say I was due to the retrofit free of charge. Hopefully this will hold water. They also said, as mentioned above, that there is a way of identifying the bike as having the Halogen light and therefore it should be traceable. I don't ride a lot at night but would certainly want the light to be retrofitted for resale value.

The official BMW info:

The vehicles are additionally equipped with OE 019Z for better identification of the vehicles even at a later time.
Later retrofitting is offered for vehicles that are equipped with the options SA 0191 Dynamic ESA and SA 0538 Cruise Control ex factory.
At the time of delivery, the customer will receive a coupon for the authorised BMW Motorrad Retailer in the amount of EURO 500.00 gross, incl. VAT for compensation [local-adjustment necessary].
SERVICE SOLUTION
Because the adaptive LED headlight is temporarily unavailable ex factory, the customer is only responsible for the parts cost of retrofitting. The cost for this is EURO 500.00 gross, incl. VAT, and can be covered with the value coupon, for example [local-adjustment necessary]. This requires the installation of an adaptive LED headlight retrofit kit. Labour costs can be billed as warranty.

Hi Neil, do you have any more info on the voucher being transferred to a new owner ?
I am looking at buying a gs privately that is awaiting headlight change and the owner has a voucher to go with the bike. I phoned BMW who were not to helpful once I said it was a private sale. Even said the warranty on the bike might not be worth anything.

It is STILL a nightmare.
I would avoid any bike now with only the halogen headlamp as replacing them has now gone beyond ta joke. I certainly wouldn’t buy one when there are plenty with LED lights available.
I tried to PM you but can’t as you’re not a subscriber. I think..
Check out my 72 GSA for sale with LED in the for sale section. Again need to subscribe I think to access that section.

Hi Neil, I am going to see a 22 gs on sunday the other side of the country from me but its a good price but headlight is waiting to be done. I asked M&P in Swansea near me and they say they will honour the voucher but not getting headlights until end of year. Fingers crossed eh.

Be careful dealers have been ‘promising’ to do the headlights in a couple of months for 18 months now and still not done them.
Avoid.

I have a 2021 reg (2022 model for sale and I'm in South Wales). It's a Rallye TE, black wheels, headlight, heated seats, both billet packs, alarm, SOS, tracker, engine bars and factory fog lights.

What sort of price and mileage does it have .
