i'll post this under the "vendors of innovation" section too....

yesterday in Settle ( north yorks ) i saw a gs coming towards me with strips of perhaps 10 leds (white)fitted horizontally & forward facing in the handguards, i was surprised by the avoidance effect it had on me, just because it looked so wide. They looked like the new led lights on the latest audi's...really bright

by the time i'd turned to catch up, it was too late....the rider had gone

Ok, can the font of wisdom on here help me to create the same for my bike?

Nippy norman hasn't heard of anything like this...

thanks Simon

Niipy sells them :D (close anyway)

You need a Kissan signal minder, plus a pair of Vectralights ;)

TBH I Don't know if the signal minder is compatible with the plastic fantastic...I doubt it, as it's a replacement for the BMW flasher unit and I really can't see it being canbus friendly.

The unit is perfect for the superior 11xx's though- it makes your indicators self canceling, makes them on all the time in one of three intensities (so you can have them as running lights or off if you want) and you plug the vectralights into the unit as well.

The vectralights are what you sy- a strip of superbright LED's on a flexible backing- there are 8 or so facing one way (amber) and 8 red ones facing the other way- they all act as indicators when you're indicating (they sort of scroll upwards which is very effective) and if you link the signalminder to the feed from the brake light then when you apply the brake, the red ones glow double brightness.

The idea is you stick the strip under a mirror edge or on a flat surface with the ambers pointing forwards and the reds....well, I'll let you guess ;)

I've got a pair on the rear corners of my worldbeater panniers....they're so big that people behind lose sight of my rear indicators as soon as they've gone more than about 15 degrees off my central line IYSWIM....the vectralights are superb and let people from all angles behind see that I'm indicating and braking, plus they act as markers to show how wide my (black) panniers are from behind and in front .

Superb kit, highly recommended ...and Nippy does sell them ;)

What sort of dimensions are the Vectra lights?

Thought about fitting something like them onto the commuter bike so it gets noticed when I'm filtering past all the parked cars :)

About four inches long and a half inch wide.....

I can see the back of my bike from where I'm sitting and there are actually 5 leds down the sides and one on the tip.

They are very effective though.

TBH I'm not sure the strip they're on is flexible to go around the curvature of a GS mirror body- mounting on a flat surface is probably better :)

And being LED's, the light dispersal pattern is pretty directional.
