Lenovo Laptop - Locked Out

Hi folks
I have an old Lenovo G550 Laptop which I use for daily computer use around the house.
I also have a desktop as back up and using with printer & scanner - so I'm still online.
My problem is a few keys have stopped working on the laptop and now I can't even get into the laptop because I need one of the keys for the password on start up.
I'll need to replace the laptop - long overdue! - but will need to access the old laptop to transfer various documents - so, any suggestions from the wise on here of the best/easist way to do this?
The laptop is running Windows10 (don't like it)
My desktop is still on Windows XP Pro
All help and suggestions appreciated.

Plug in a USB or wireless keyboard and reboot.

plug a keyboard into a USB port

Get yourself a usb external drive adaptor like in the link below and remove the drive from the laptop and plug it into the pc.

Thanks for suggestions guys. The USB EXTERNAL DRIVE ADAPTOR CABLE looks like a cost-effective solution and it might be useful in the future as well.
