Let's see what all the fuss is about

I didn't realise you were part exchanging?

Yep. Couldn't be arsed to sell it privately!

Although, if someone is prepared to come to my house, strip the bits off for Toddy, then beat the dealers offer for a basic bike, they're more than welcome!;)

This is one of the main reasons, tbh. I can wait for the bike, but want to get the bits off the XR, and onto Toddy's.:thumb

Same offer if you like. I'm working in Vienna near the UN building in the centre. Main KTM dealer is 10-15min away if you need something collecting.

Do you reckon you'll get to ride it before Ride/Bike/MCN bring out their next 'best bike in the world' and you have to change it? :augie:D

I too have had a problematic KTM. My choke lever had worked slightly loose so I had to hold the choke on with my finger. I finally managed to sort the problem by taking 10 seconds to nip the pivot screw up a little and it now has a lovely action to it ......It honestly did have me questioning my loyalty to KTM :D

Well as I ordered the 1290R last June before any bikes existed I don't tend to by my bikes based on reviews. Same as Africa Twin-ordered it as soon as it was announced . So to answer your question .......

Was in my local KTM dealer yesterday and they had a 1290S on the floor with a demo coming in a week or so.

The 1290R model is on its way soon (I think :D). The headlight "appearance" would still be an issue for me as it's pretty ugly - even in the flesh. I wanted to try out the 1290 engine so took out a 1290 Super Duke GT. It's certainly a peach and if I was going down the orange route anytime soon it would probably be the SD GT.

Guys I just moved from 2014 GS to a 2016 1290 SA (now SA-T). I wanted to upgrade to the GSA which was the reason to part with my beloved GS last June but waited till Aug for updates and then November came the V2 with HHC, D ESA etc for the GS and the eminent update the GS in 2018 plus a delayed delivery of the 2017 GSA, and then I thought to myself why not a 1290!! I too wanted to see what the fuss was all about. And oh wow! I'm just blown away. It's an awesome engine and the chassis is a gem. I'm a huge GS boxer fan, I still love the GS but the 1290 is a different bike. I would say both are similar in many ways and also different in many ways.

I hope Rich gets his bike quick and I'm waiting for his side by side comparison of both the flagship machines. Would've interesting to have his perspective.

Order now changed to the 1290S, following a great test ride today. This is going to be fun!:beerjug:

Nope, I'll have that by the end of next week.

Just before Easter :thumb

Expensive ornament ! Will it get used especially having 2 similar bikes and the one in front will always be the Ktm and certainly more rewarding to ride.

I'm in the midst of an unscheduled and unplanned change contemplation, out of curiosity, what has attracted you to the 1290S over the R? Is it just availability or are there other factors?

I'm currently on the now old model 1290T and had the 1190S previously, but find myself being strangely attracted to the 1090R (990A nostalgia perhaps?). Am I the only one with this strange calling/dirty secret?

1290 sa

Which colour did you go for Nutty.

Black i guess going by the BM you were on today.?

Enjoy.
