I need a new pair and was thinking:

Some knobblys would be cool

But the reality is... I use the bike for work, winter will be with us soon and the majority of the time I'll be riding with care.

I've got Tourances on now and they've been fine apart from the odd sensation (covered in other threads)

When it's dry I do like to push it
I do ride with a pillion and a loaded bike from time to time
I'm never really going to take it off road

My first choice would be (is it TK80's) cause the look cool and if the wise amonst you would recomend these on on a cold wet friday night I'll go for it

So what are your thoughts and recomendations?

What about these new sticky tyres...

Thanks

What about these new sticky tyres...

BT020's.

I've followed Mr Tickle on his TKC's, and spent a long time behind the beaver headed oneup in the Alps, also on (very worn) TKC's.......I've also been behind Vern as he laid it over round a roundabout....none of them showed any signs of slippage or twitchiness and the knobblies didn't seem to slow them down whatsoever......It would seem that the tyres are still able to give levels of grip beyond the requirements for fast road use.

I'm due for some new hoops very soon and if it wasn't for the fact that I'll be doing the saddle sore 2000 shortly afterwards, I'd get TKC's this time round.....but with a much higher wear rate it and the increase in vibration, it seems daft to fit them just before a 2000 mile motorway trip.

They do look damn cool though.....If I could find a pair of ADV wheels to put a set on and keep as spare, I'd jump at the opportunity.

Same thing..

My GS is fitted with now obselete Michelin Tyres.. and will be due for changing soon. With winter approaching i am in the same situation, was looking at tourances, but then spotted comments on badly moulded ones..

What are the options..

I used to run BT020's on two of my previous bikes,, nice tyres, but whats the wear like with the heavier bike?

Looks like my decision could be forced by avalibility... My fitter 'Teckmotive' can get Tourances and BT020's by tomorrow.

So I think I'll give the BT020's a try...

The best alternative to Tourances is probaly the Michelin Anakee.......My rear has a 1000 miles left in it and it's done 7000....it works well and I've heard no problems about them.....

I used 020s in a previous life as Pan European rider (sorry Tim ), and found them to be great. Only thing is, the Pan used to get through them in 4k for a rear and 8k for a front - don't know how they'd fare on the GS...

And they'd be utterly useless off-road, I'd think...

Mike:)

I think the Pan is a lot heavier than a GS, even an Adventure?

Having said that, the GS is a twin so possibly harsher on the rear tyre ... there are a lot of factors at work here, I think the only way to be sure is to try it :)

If I can find some in time my PD will be shod with TKC's at Princetown, not that I will even think about trying to keep up with the Vern's, BHT's and Mr Tickle's of this world cos they are fekkin nuts :D

But they (and therefore I  ) will look the part, especially with the Acerbis high mudguard now in situ :thumb

Did another two hours on the 80GS today - the Knobblies are better, (or as good as) anything else that I have ridden on - good road tyres - v good on bends etc - amazing when you look at their design

Where is Steptoe - not still on his paper round is he
Just rememer to give Micheldever at least 48 hours notice when you need replacements :(

Dodgy must be busy with more punters (more referrals from yours truly) - oh well at least he'll be minted at the weekend and ripe for a jail ale or two :D
