Hey all, hope everyone is enjoying autum riding stunning out on the roads this time of year. Time to replace my metzler tourance's which i i got to say ive been impressed with. Now im a bit torn between these two tyres:
Metzler tourance next 2
And continental contitrail attack 3

Metzler ive had on a lot lf bikes over the yeara love the brand continental never really tried before but have great reviews.
95% of my riding is on the road but would like to venture down some of the gravel lanes ive seen while riding peak district, nothing to major ive had a new hip so being advised falling of bikes should should be high on my list of things not to do.

Anyway just about to order on two tyres and just thought id get opinons from users to help me choose i know both will be fantastic so either set ill.be happy with its becuase there so good im struggling to choose haha.

Cheers all for any imput

Anything other than Chinese shite will be fine . My preference is normally Continental

The Continental has been my choice for a long time now.

Until a few years ago I never knew that tyres had dates etched onto the sidewalls, for example my Conti. rear tyre has (3822) which means:-
The numbers "3822" on a tyre indicate the week and year of manufacture. Specifically, "38" means the tyre was made in the 38th week of the year, and "22" indicates the year 2022.
Front is (3821) 38th week same, and year of manufacture 2021, the recommended tyre life is 5 years, less if worn badly, or has any cracks showing, of course.

This might help others, along the path of when to choose new tyres.

long time since I had a 1150GS but the original version of the Contis transformed the bike. v3 is bound to be an improvement in grip and/or longevity

Next 2 are very good but found the rears wear quickly , TA 3's are also very good possibly better

Fingga o doom 😂 interesting name, not sure what to read into that. Yeah the year of manufacture is a good one for riders to be aware of especially when buying older bikes ive known for a good while and i take the 5 year rule with a pinch of salt condition and history of the tyres life i tend to take into consideration mine for example are 2019 and i still.have good feel.and grip its just squared off at the back and the front is getting low so nice to get a new set and get the most out of the new advances in tyre tech.

Trail attacks dont add more to my list to look at ill never end up odering any haha, its one of those dull men club moments to enjoy reading all the reviews of tyres but then making the final choice is a pain. Continentals seem to be popular and i quite like trying new things never had contis before so be nice change like other uses have said there is no bad choice of premium tyre 👍

I get the 5 year rule might not apply to yourself, or others, if you was the buyer of the said tyres and know their histories.
Myself I bought the bike I own with tyres attached, no history other than year of manufacture, not when they was fitted, how many stones, rocks, kerbs, have been hit in their lifetime, I couldn't put a count on, hence why after 5 years of riding on them luckily without an issue I will change for a brand new set, usually always buying both at same time.
Some can make tyres last much longer if doing lower mileages each year, but like many man made objects, most things have a given shelf life, recommendations as a guide whether to change after their allotted time, for not doing so may lead to perhaps an explosion which we can all best do without.

Continental Trail Attack's again for me.

I have been using the good old Metzler Tourance….all made in China for many year.
Took me a few years to realise they are made in China.
Nothing at all wrong with them and they are still one of the best allrounders and hard wearing tyres for the 1150 GS/A
That my 5 pence added here….::))

PS@ jetjock….most the stuff you use everyday is made in PRC… actively avoiding any stuff made in PRC is really hard these days.
Quality is increasing by the minute and has overtaken a lot of the western standards by far, I am afraid .

I do like the look of the Attack3 however….
How bout…

Had two sets of Meridians on different bikes (at the same time )and both were faulty and in the case of the ones on the 1200 they were dangerous , Meridians have also had numerous safety related recalls since their introduction , was given a pair of Mutants by Dunlop which were originally going to be for the Press Launch (so were "optimised" ) to replace the Meridians on the 1200 ,this took months and in the means time I had put Trail Attack 3's on the bike. The Mutants went on my r1250GSA and I did not rate them either .
R1250GSA now has Trail Attack 3's the R1150 has Next 2 (same as the KTM I just got rid of

Cheers Neil for that info and for all that have dropped there own personal perspective and imput im going with the continental contitrail attack 3 over the metzler it was neck an neck thats whyni put this out but goin to try them mostly based on never having continentals before and seems like many have had a good experiance with the brand over all. I had some dunlop sportsmarts years ago and it put me off dunlop for life ive never had them since they were awful. Cheers for all the responses look forward to getting some.new boots on the old girl 👍

Ahh yes I know they are all made in PRC but I tried some Chinese branded one and they were heavier and therefore rotational inertia made the bike so slow to turn it was dangerous. Once I replaced them with continental the handling was restored .

Whichever tyres you decide on will be up to the task. There’s nobody on here can ride well enough to find the limits of modern tyres on the road and very, very few good enough off road.
I tend to use tyres which have a bit of off road capability. This proved to be a good decision whilst in Norway a couple of years ago. The main road north was washed out by a storm and only gravel tracks were passable. The Motorad tour we were chatting to we’re having to turn around and go south as many on the trip had road tyres on and were struggling for grip on the muddy tracks.

Yeah i think ill only ever be visiting a few gravel and generally middle of no where roads now and then when exploring, got to say my old gs brings me a lot of joy just rolled onto 117k on the clock today shes pulls like a train so she deserves a treat with new boots. Yeah will post a reply once i got them.on let you know how i get on, i like with the continentail there is very little scrub in period haha no more driving out the tyre shop feeling like riding on ice.

I just had some michelin anakee wilds put on the 1250 gs. A very interesting tire. I had anakee adventures on and they were helpless in sand and mud, but were pretty sticky in smooth packed dirt and hard clay. The wilds seem to stick to everything even pavement. The big negatives with the wilds are the noise and of course knobbies don't wear well either. The noise is very loud, earplugs only for sure. I rode the GS the other day for a long ride much of it on dirt. Or sand I should say. The tires were fantastic in the sand and on the road too which really surprised me. I totally believe the guy's who claim to drag their foot pegs with the wilds, they really stick to the road surface. as far as wear they seamed to do fine as I was only riding from a to b not motocrossing it ... lol. There was no detectable wear on the front and the back had a touch, each knobby has a faint line thru it and that was still there .... Wear is going to be the big factor ....
