......there's about 5 million people in Scotland, how the hell is someone meant to work out who this.....

Well, the gentleman himself is a Chaplain with a fairly specific name...I'm sure his service record could be traced.

Found this letter in an antique shop and was wondering if anyone knows anything about this particular town/village, or if any of the people named are still around.

Captain, The Rev, Derek Balfour Elliot M.C. died on the 1/2/1943 aged 30, and was buried in the Milan War Cemetery. His parents were John Wilson Elliott and Isabel Penman Elliott, of Paisley, Renfrewshire.
I wonder what happened to him?
The letter addressed to him is dated December 21 (presumably 1942) and his date of death is listed as 1st February 1943. Maybe he died as a result of wounds received in battle before capture?

I wonder what happened to him too...
The letter was written 5th October 1942...in the letter the lady congratulates the Captain on his decoration ( must have been the M.C. he received) and enquires about his health and asks if he is comfortable....so he must have been wounded prior to capture.......

It's a different spelling but if you google Reverend the captain DB Elliott there are a couple of links pertaining to him getting the MC in 1940, if it's the same chap

It is. I have his MC in my possession.
Hi Derek,
I'm afraid this thread dates from 2009 and JimmyC does not appear to be active nowadays. I have contacted the owner/administrator of this Forum to see if he has any contact information for JimmyC which would allow you to get in touch regarding the letter.
