Admittedly I agree with the posts...keep the GS1150...you'll just buy another down the road.
As a second bike, or if you really have the urge to change, I test road the KTM SM T (990cc). The bags are smaller, the bike is lighter, it rev's faster and easier up to the power band. I found the suspension to be very supple, soaking up the bumps. An interesting alternative and not as harsh as the Super Duke or other 'Super moto's'.
Go for a test ride and see...

I have often thought about changing the GS or having a second bike, but then I discover that there's nothing out there that I would ultimately change the GS for. No higher compliment can you pay your bike than that IMO.
So the 1150 stays. There's 60,600 miles on her now, but sure, she's only just run in.
A 1100 Katana or a 900SS Ducati would be company for her in the garage though.

I had in mind a first-series (square headlight, flat-sided fairing) 900SS as company for the GS too, but I just know it would sit there not being used 360 days of the year and that wouldn't sit well with SWMBO - I already have a '67 Lambretta sat in the garage gathering dust because I don't get time to spend working on and riding it.
Had my 1150 7 years, tried loadsa different bikes but nothing compares to the old barge.
I spent a fraction of the cash I would have needed for a part-ex doing her up - wilbers shocks etc ... so now she's even better!

Somebody please tell me I'm wrong........ BUT, I've had my lovely 1150 for just over 12 months now, covered 20000 trouble free miles and love it to bits, but as I've only had my bike licence for 2 years, I'm still eager to experience other bikes. If money was no object, i'd keep the GS, and build up a stable of bikes, but at the moment, i like the Triumph Sprint ST, also love the new KTM 990........
So, what to do....? I was like this with cars years ago, chopped and changed 'em like me under pants, but now that biking and touring is truly in the blood, I wanna try other bikes.

Seriously, though, there's nothing wrong with trying other bikes, just don't sell the GS first because you'll want to keep coming back to it after trying all those lesser machines.Try them all, but try them properly - not just a 10 minute ride around the block. Only by riding (and possibly owning) other bikes have I really come to appreciate the 1150 for what it is.

It's a keeper and this year I'm intending to SORN it at the end of November for a big refurbishment as the 6 winters of abuse that it's suffered have made a horrible mess of the paint on the engine, gearbox and rear subframe.
Almost 6 years from new, over 52,000 miles, always got me home and the only serious problem was an output side FD bearing at 26,000 miles.

Well now, let see. Its very heavy, and carries the weight high, it's not any where near as quick as it looks like it should be, the paint was flaking off the frame on mine after 6000 miles, at 6'2" the standard fairing is useless at keeping the wind off, and it didn't handle as well as the fireblade it replaced. The last bit can be forgiven.
As i said, i loved the look of it, just not the riding.
