Life's a beach...

Just a quick update on your lawn and access rml, you can park on the grass above the beach but there's an area specifically roped off and designated for parking so it's not a free for all (some sections down past Kilkenneth were the same). We were warned off the Green though.

Jurassic & Fruitcake ..Oh man sorry to hear that changed days... I meant it as a joke I(bad) had no idea,
people were having issues roped off area!?!, back in the day,'93 ish you could park anywhere, drive any track, and never got any hassle from anyone. The farmer at the Green used to try it on occasionally but was told in no uncertain terms by the local police (Danny if memory serves) to lay off.

Oh man are they on the way to concreting over paradise...

I'll have to give Andy a call, and catch up, same with locals who are still there.

.. oh and I want to go just to see the reef at White House Farm go off..

Which reminds me anybody figured out how to mount a surfboard to a bike yet?, I remember some guys in California did a rack
but I can't find any info now.

Cheers

I suppose it's inevitable really as more people visit the island. RET will make it even more accessible too. It's still a fantastic place though.

yep - they have an access officer on the island now who is trying to get some kind of focus and practical attitudes / solutions going. The Community Trust published aTiree Access Code last year too. At least folks are trying to do something about it.

Fresh water on the island remains an issue, wild camping and folks using the machair to drive over too much in wet conditions has helped to ruin it for all as the crofters get grumpy about wrecked machair / litter / andrex trails - the same old issues that eventually affect all the great 'wild' places of Scotland. There is also an official campsite now

Danny retires this year too - end of an era.

Change - always happens :thumb

It's great to see the island busy and hopefully prosperous! I'd recommend a visit to anyone who's never been! The sunniest place in the UK :clap :Motomartin

That's all good common sense stuff Fruitcake, it's a shame that Calmac don't give everyone on the ferry a copy. A lot of the time though people who seek out and read info like that are the ones who would probably follow the guidelines anyway.
It struck me how friendly the locals were while we were there but it's a fragile balance and with the inevitable increase in tourism I wonder if it'll remain that way. I find it staggering that it's necessary to put up a sign at Balephuil asking people not to drive across the field, it's only a couple of hundred yards to walk to the beach! What are people thinking. I wonder if they'll have to restrict access to the dunes at Crossapol as well in future?
Incidentally I take it you and Wully know about John's Sailrepair forum?

Calmac are getting better though - have you seen the posters on how to drive on a single track road on the Mull ferry - tells tourists to remember that not everyone is a tourist and locals may want to drive slightly faster than them, how to use passing places for overtaking etc :D
Calmac were offering Gaelic lessons on the ferry to Harris this summer too.:jibber

We Were Looking in the Opposite Direction Tash!

Hi Tash,
Have attatched a couple of pics taken on Saturday from a tiny wee village called Portuairk at the end of Ardnamurchan.
One is looking over to Sanna beach - one of the finest beaches in Scotland:thumb2
Both images are looking north-ish with the hills of Ruhm, Eigg etc in the background along with some of the Cuillins:thumb2 - you should have waved:rolleyes:
Needless to say, weather all weekend was superb - and a hell of a lot better than Morpeth:(

Cheers................Grizzly:beer::beer:

PS... Clachtoll is my favourite out of those I can remember:rob visiting in Scotland

Yes:thumb2:cool:

Clue- got pannier racks fitted?

Saw a DR Big in Newquay with a surfboard mounted on the pannier rack on the offside. The surfboard was vertical, fins in. It was only about a 5' 6" so wouldn't have been a problem down the street to Fistral- wouldn't like to try it on the A1 though...

I've seem piccies of longboards mounted on a rack above the driver that over hang the bike....

Just get a van.....

Not quite Scottishland :oonyack

But it's up North .......................... :bounce1
