Help, help!

1150 failed its MOT on a couple of obscure things, most now sortedready for the re-test except that the high beam is too high:confused:

Now I know how to adjust the beams, and the dipped beam is correct (now)
but what is the level that you set the high beam to:nenau

I've checked the owners manual and it only shows how to adjust the dipped beam:mad:

HHHEEEEEELLLPPPPPPP:tears

There are a couple of screws, maybe three, around the edge of the highbeam unit. Use these to adjust the beam relative to the dip which you know to be correct.

Mine is set so that the high beam focus patch sits around 60% to 70% above the top of the dip beam cut-off and firing directly ahead of he bike. If you have HID's this is very easy to see even with street lights but if you are on standard lamps you'll need to set it up in an area of darkness. Mine looks like 2/3rds of a circle of light above the dip line. On an unlit road it's like a searchlight:D

When I fitted my HID's my very helpful local dealer checked them (and in fact adjusted them upwards) FOC. Motorrad Central West, they're stars, albeit smoky ones at he momment.

Hi Packer, thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately i havent got HIDs although Im sure theyre the way forward.:thumb2

I know about the adjusting screws you mentioned and have turned them both ways to full stop. The adjustments were made in the dark and I must admit that I couldnt make out the spot light effect you spoke about.

I must admit that I might have to pop round to the local dealer 1st before going to the test centre. I thought that I would be able to turn a couple of screws and that would be that:nenau

I put a length of wood across the drive then drove my car about 5 feet away turned on the lights and marked the distinctive horizontal beam pattern. Rode the bike up to the wood and whilst sat on it adjusted the headlight to match the lines from the car headlights..... Worked a treat and was spot on at the MOT center :thumb2
