I am wanting to build a lightbar - and was wondering if anyone else has done the same?
If so, please reply here or drop me a line: [email protected]
with any hints/tips.

Thanks!

Richard.

PS As they say, the only cheap part of a BMW is the owner

yes I did. I made another one for someone on here, Warthog. i thought that as an improvement for the one I made for myself. I made it in 2 halves, and used a ty wrap to stop it rotating. The idea was that if th bike was dropped, having it in 2 halves would allow the ty wrap to snap, and the bracket to rotate, lessening the chance of damage.

It's a bent piece of metal:augie Where's the rocket science? There is a satisfaction in making something yourself you know.

Thanks Eliminator - exactly the reason I wanted to build my own - easier to fix, cheaper - and gives me the satisfaction of doing it myself ... otherwise I can just take it into a shop and have them do it for me.

BTW Where is it? - After all anyone who looks like John Cleese can't be all bad - can they? :ronno

HM - I could, but being in Canada makes it rather clostly - unless you want to absorb shipping costs?
:hide

Thanks! I'll keep this thread going once I get drawings and can build it.

Just make a template out of a piece of card. try to keep it narrow, otherwise if the bike is dropped the lights will get damaged.:augie If I had cut the middle section out on my light bar this would not have happened. Drill two holes in each side for a ty wrap to hold the 2 halves in alignment, in conjunction of course with the bolts that hold it in place,

the bolts you hang it off are all the same, but what lights are you using?
what sort of "drop" do you want under the beak ,
when you made it make sure the steering doesnt foul,
as eliminator says get a bit of card and make your own template 1st,
other peoples designs might not suit your lights

be aware, get it wrong and the top of the forks will hit the light bar!

honest... i aint making it up!

hm

Why would anyone want to bolt a lump of old scrap Iron on their bike when you could get a pair of these beauties from uncle Les ... ? ..... :D

if you look a few posts up their is another thread regarding EXACTLY the same as yours

have a look at how others have done it, choose how you want to do it, and just do it.

eliminators right, more fun doing it yourself
