light staying on in speedo needle.

I'm sure someone has had this problem before but I haven't found it yet so i'm going for the easy option.

When I got home yesterday and turned off the bike I noticed that the needle in the speedo was still on. I left the bike for a while and it was still on so I disconnected the battery to stop it from being drained. Today off I went again (after screwing back in the positive on the battery) and when I stopped it looked like the power was off on the needle (at least I couldn't see it). This afternoon, its back on again.

Firstly, will it drain the battery overnight? and secondly anyone know what the problem might be?

What do you mean by the speedo was still on? Was it lit, or just indicating a number?

its was lit. nothing else on, just the needle. it was reading zero speed.
