OK, fitted a touratech HID main beam replacement unit to my 2000 1150GS, non ABS - no problems.
Fitted same unit to my mates 2003 1150GS with ABS, came on for about 5-10 seconds and blew the fuse. 7.5 amp blade type in the fuse box. Checked the fuses on my bike, lights not fused in the fuse box, assume in-line somewhere.
Replaced fuse in mates bike with new one having first checked all connections OK, same thing happened, came on for about 5-10 seconds and then blew fuse.
Replaced fuse with a 10amp and everything works OK. Had a good look round, nothing seems to be overheating.
So here's the question(s)...
Is the 2000 model different to the 2003? What's the rating on the 2000 fuse?
Any ideas what the HID unit would be drawing on 'start up', could this be between 7.5 and 10 amp?
We rang Touratech UK, Nick was honest enough to say he didn't know cause, hadn't seen it before.
Rang Touratech Germany (got a German colleague to do this) and they said they do not answer these types of query on the phone, we should write to them.
We're really looking for peace of mind, don't want things going up in smoke in the middle of nowhere at the weekend. Also wondering about insurance implications if any electrical issues.
Cheers Jim

- BM* wouldn't let him change the fuse on the first bike or fit light to the second, despite him telling them of my experience and pointing out the bikes were fused differently.
