This week ive had to charge the Himalayans battery, again. Probably my fault for not using it enough. Several months ago I went through a similar process on my Multistrada V4S and bought a lithium ion battery, when the box arrived I thought I’d been scammed as the box was so light. Anyway since then the Ducati hasnt missed a beat.

Im now planning on buying one for the Himalayan.

Has anyone on here already done this ?

Are lithium ion more or less susceptible to abuse ?

Any other comments or shall I just crack on ?

Crack on, as they say.

Which one are you buying? Hitchcocks’ is the same dimensions as the RE battery.

What year is your bike? Earlier my Himalayans suffer from a battery drain. You can get an add on harness to stop it. (Or just disconnect the battery!)

My brother in law has recently bought a 21 plate Himalayan and at less than 4000 miles it has needed a battery , charging system is working fine and there is no measurable drain on the battery . After being left unused for 5 days it would not start so fitted a decent quality higher CCA AGM battery and it has been fine since .

Belt and braces approach includes fitting a an Optimate charging lead but since putting on the new battery it has been fine.

Reckon the standard Royal Enfield battery is just very poor quality

The bike is a 2021 E4, I bought it new with an upgraded battery, but I don’t know what was fitted.

I haven’t looked into where I will buy the new battery from, but the battery I bought for the Ducati came from Two Tyres.

My plan is to remove the existing batter, measure it and obtain the specification before shopping around, unless anyone has the information to hand, in which case online research can start (no pun)

Re factory fit batteries from India. My KTM Duke 390 came with an “Exide” from new. It was always slow cranking ( 390 single 14:1 compression ratio) but come winter the battery voltage displayed on the TFT would drop with just the ignition and DRL on. After 7/10 days the standing voltage was 12/12.2 V dropping to 11.8 v if it didnt start on the first press it would drop to 10 ish and no cranking.
In May I bought a middle price battery off Tayna and so far its been better. The cold weather will tell.

re Lithium batteries, I did a bit of research when changing mine. The common themes are , they dont like extended cold spells , secondly need a lithium charger as most traditional units will overcharge them.

As luck would have it, I already own a suitable battery charger, which is not an optimate.

After the battery fiasco of the last couple of weeks and my return from the SW I have today ordered a Lithium Ion replacement from Two Tyres at the delivered price of £73.90.

Removal of the old battery was a bit of a pain. The fixings will be replaced and a spot of ACF 50 grease applied when the new battery is fitte.
