That every man and his dog, has their own take on the world’s best tent:

Nice picture, even I do say so myself

Why does anyone bother slumming it in a tent these days?

There are perfectly good low cost hotels, inns and airbnbs all over the place.

Different horses different courses. Tenting isn't slumming for me personally, don't know what it is but I sleep like a baby in a tent.

There doesn’t look to be a b&b or a hotel anywhere near that field.
What is the attraction of sleeping in a field - I get a desert island beach or a real adventure in Tibet or wherever, but a featureless Engish field is not 'adventuring' in the slightest

I guess because it’s different?

I am no fan of biker rallies or whatever they are called. But, some bods from this site get together for a day or two ‘under canvass’ at assorted ‘events’ and it’s quite good fun. Everyone pitches in * and it makes a change.

PS There again, the non-camping meet-ups (like the regular ones in London) are quite fun, too. So, tents are not by any means essential. But they don’t just happen; as with any event, someone has to start and finish it off.

* See what I did there?

Perhaps now I am retired...............hmmmmmmm perhaps not :D

They are not compulsory. I am equally sure that if you attended but didn’t camp, nobody would throw stones at you…. At least not at first! :D

When is the next Tossers meet up? You never know

Beers and food, November 5th, see sticky in SE section.

Camping, probably in 2026 (I guess) especially if we do a repeat of the ‘Soft shandy drinkers’ event of last year, which was (as I recall) in February. For this, some quite nicely finished ‘shepherds huts’ were available for hire.

I'll check it out

The next London event is scheduled to be ‘on the outer reaches’, some way from the London mainline terminus towards Cambridgeshire. You might like to book a hotel….. or bring a tent.

Camping you sit outside in the fresh air, talk , get pissed. Hotels etc you gon to your room , fall asleep on yer bed and and well!

Spent a week in France. Kipping in a tent. Be it 42°c during a day and as low as 8°c during the night. It was a blast and an Adventure, apart from a single campsite with pure clay pitch, without a blade of grass in sight.
