Hi all,

I know I posted this the other day but couldn't get to read your reply's as the site had a tech glitch :(

I am thinking about getting a secondhand Metroguide map of America so I can load the maps for Florida for an upcomming trip there. When I read the gubbins on ebay it says that it is only able to plot routes on your pc :nenau

What I need to know before purchasing one is if I load the maps for Florida, will I be able to select a street name or attraction and press "route to". Will it navigate me there?

I have a Quest1 by the way :D

Don't fancy carting my laptop around just so I can plot routes.

Thanks in advance guys

Sorry mate,

Quest won't autoroute with Metroguide USA. I used it last year but took my laptop along and planned and downloaded routes before each journey. It was fairly useful but still had to keep map for any unplanned excursions. The Quest will show you where you are and still find poi's but if you try to route to them it will plot a straight line. :(
This year I bought City Navigator v7 USA on internet for around £60 incl. postage and didn't have to look at a map once, coverage in Florida is superb with full autorouting on the Quest. PM me if you want any more info.

Cheers

Ken

You can still plan routes on the unit, albeit slightly painful. Its what I did when I was in the US.
I dropped way pts typically about 1/4 mile before any juction I had to take and usually gave the way pt a handy name 'R I23' would be right onto the I23 etc. the route it gives you is then a stright line between the way pts.
Definately no perfect, but it did me.

Thanks guys,

I am watching a new V7 on fleabay at the moment which is the city navigator. If I can get it cheap enough I will have a go otherwise its get the maps out time

I went to California last year, with my Quest 1. I located the nearest Garmin stockist before flying (3.5 mile walk from hotel in Santa Monica), and got him to reserve me "City Select North America v7".

Picked it up as soon as I got there, unlocked and loaded up CA maps, and worked perfectly for 1850 miles on the road. Don't know how I'd have managed LA, Frisco, and Vegas without it!

Auto-routes perfectly, just as in UK. Obviously had to reload UK maps on my return.

Only problem was that I had two too many wheels. :(
